Jim was about the nicest person I knew in Boulder. When I was laid up in Boulder Community Hospital after a cycling accident, Jim came by out of the blue to cheer me up. He was the best example of a good person I knew.

Sorry to be so slow... Jim's death was completely unknown to me until recently, and I couldn't seem to find reliable information. I have known Jim for many years as a friend and climbing companion. Also less so, his brother, Joe, both of whom I met years ago in Colorado Springs. It's hard to imagine more of a gentleman than Jim Sharp. He was always so incredibly modest and soft spoken and never seemed 'spooked' by climbing difficulty. He was a great inspiration to me in every way. On many wonderful climbs that he led... I came back later inspired by him to lead them as well. What a grand person to have known!

Condolences to Jim's family. It was a hoot flying with him.
Jim flew me into Backside Glacier in 1977, I believe, and we climbed Huntington. He hadn't been there before so we went in in the Super Cub for the first landing.
On the flight in I pointed to the Tokositna Glacier and told him that was where we would be hinking out.
What?
I forgot to tell him we were only booking him one way.
He flew the rest of the team in over the Tokositna b/c he couldn't believe we wanted to hike over it. When they landed at Backside, they were stoic — realizing we had bit off a lot.
It was an epic hike out. He was right to be worried.
He took care of us.
RIP, Jim Sharp

We'll miss the voicemails, Jim trying to make us think the IRS is calling, that Texas twang getting thicker by the minute, the gentle sparing and bantering he was so good at, and of course the adventures...
