James Serrano Obituary

James Medardo Serrano, 60, passed away on Sunday December 14, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, Colorado of complications from a stroke. He fought hard till the very end.

James was born October 27, 1954 to Joe Serrano and Orlinda (Serrano) Arellano of Chama N.M. He moved to Durango in 6th grade and attended school at Miller Junior High and Durango High School. He worked for La Plata County for several years as an equipment operator and later drove propane trucks. His one true love was the Denver Broncos. He also loved to play pool and throw horseshoes. He started the Annual Serrano 4th of July Horseshoe Tournament many years ago, and it still brings a huge crowd today. He also started the Bayfield Youth Baseball League in 1990. The Serrano family home was a place many turned to when they needed somewhere to live. James loved children and this was shown throughout the years, he was known as "Uncle James" to all.

James was preceded in death by his father Joe Serrano and Brother Bobby Serrano.

James is survived by his mother, Orlinda Arellano of Bayfield,CO. Two children: Son, Joey and wife Kristy Serrano; 2 grandsons: Dylan and Keaton Pickering of Bayfield, CO. Daughter, Jackie and husband Mike Bray; 2 grandsons Landon and Braydon from Gilbert, AZ. Brothers: Teddy Serrano of Santa Fe, NM; Lee Serrano of Bloomfield, NM; Roy Jaramillo of Chama, NM. Sisters: Rosemary Jaramillo and Joanne Serrano of Bayfield, CO; and his special extended family in Grand Junction including Barbara Juarez, Joyce Serrano, Stella Luciano, Janice and Ruby Crespin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday January 17, at 2:00 pm in Bayfield, CO at the Pine Valley Church. Food will be provided. Please wear your favorite Broncos attire in honor of James.
