Susan Chase
Nov 15, 1950 - Oct 12, 2023
J. Susan "Susy" Chase, daughter of the late Art & Jean Chase, was born November 15, 1950 in Chicago Illinois and entered into the loving arms of Jesus early Thursday morning, October 12, 2023. She was anointed with the Sacrament of the Sick by Fr Mike Barroa and we sang Salve Regina at her hospital bedside. We were blessed to call her our sister, she was the kindest person, a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her nieces and nephews always knew she was there to support them in anyway she could. One of the highlights in her life was meeting Mother Teresa of Calcutta when she traveled to Atlanta. .
Susan was born in Chicago, Il., grew up in Lombard, Il., moved to Atlanta, Ga. in 1961 with her family. Susan worked in the Atlanta public schools, eventually becoming a vice principal. While in Durango she was a teacher for the hearing impaired and volunteered at St Columba Catholic Church. She had a great love for old homes which brought her to Inman Park where she volunteered to help save the Trolley Barn, Atlanta's first rapid system, chaired the Spring Festival, and many other volunteer projects. When she retired she heard the call "to move west." Durango Co became home for her in 2003. She enjoyed being with family, as well as her church community. In 2016 she pulled up stakes and moved to Houston Texas. It was fun for her to be with her sisters, nieces & nephews.
Unfortunately her health took a turn and her last years weren't as exciting. She met wonderful healthcare people over the years especially at The Concierge where she spent her last two years being cared for in a kind and loving way. It was said about her "she was one of the only people who never came out of her room but she knew everyone and they knew her."
She leaves behind sisters Marydith, Alison Picheloup (Maury), brother Art Jr (Donna), Nieces & Nephews, Susy, Alison (Darin), Emily (Brian) Chip (Alyssa), Anne, Chase, Calvin, Reece, Alex, Whitney and Lily.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Durango, Co. December 28 at 12 Noon at St Columba Catholic Church. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Greenmount Cemetery where she will be able to look over the town of Durango, which she loved.
