India Summer Sage obituary

India Sage Obituary

Lifelong Ignacio resident India Summer Sage died from complications of pneumonia Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at her home. She was 26.

Miss Sage was born to Colleen Sage on Jan. 12, 1988, in Durango. She was a member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and lived in Ignacio all her life.

She attended schools there and graduated from Ignacio High School in 2009. She also attended classes at Fort Lewis College in Durango.

"India helped with other handicapped people and disabled children," according to her family. "She helped them at skills for living and learning in Bayfield."

Miss Sage donated to the Special Olympics of Colorado for three years, and she participated in the organization's activities throughout her school years.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Ignacio, and she followed the Great Spirit Way.

She split her time between the home of her Uncle Dominic Sage and the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Leigh Sage and Derrick Watts.

Miss Sage is survived by her sister, Leigh Sage of Ignacio; two uncles; four aunts; six cousins; and numerous extended family members.

The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, March 13, 2014, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 15449 Colorado Highway 172. A wake will take place afterward at the family home, 151 Jefferson Drive in Ignacio. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, also at St. Ignatius. The Rev. Damian de la Cruz-Nuñez will officiate. Burial will take place at Ouray Memorial Cemetery in Ignacio.
