Thank you for donating Behind the Scenes Cooking at Moto for the Deborah's Place gala auction. I bid and won both years but I was alway too intimidated to schedule it and go. What a mistake. Rest In Peace dear Homaro and Merry Christmas.

Homaro has ALWAYS been an inspiration to me and in my life. I was so elated when became me friend on Facebook and always dreamed of going to Moto. I had hoped to meet him one day.

Homaro, Sir, I will never forget you. I thank you for being you unapologetically You. Because of you, I am.

I'm so sorry for what happened

Just found out im very shocked and saddened to hear this. Omar was a great kid, I had him in psych class at tennyson high. I give my condolences to his friends and family.

Omar... I haven't spoken with you in over 10 years but I'm going to miss knowing that you aren't on this earth. My deepest condolences to the Cantu family.

My deepest heartfelt sympathies to you Katie and your beautiful girls. I first met Omar when we worked at Trotters together. He was such an amazing, talented Chef and individual. I wish I would have told him how much he had impacted me and my career. I looked up to him more than he could have known. Although I hadn't seen him in quite some time, throughout the years, we kept in touch and I followed his amazing accomplishments. I would see him on TV or on the cover of the latest edition of whatever food magazine, and I was so proud that I could say I worked with him! I have such fond memories of getting together with my Trotter alums at Moto when in town for the NRA show- I can still taste some of the amazing courses I experienced at Moto and Otom when I lived in Chicago. He had such a positive impact on the culinary world, and the world as a whole. A generous, kind soul who made you feel important, like you mattered and made a difference, like you could accomplish anything you put your mind to. My heart has been heavy since I heard the news. I know Omar's legacy will live on through us all. Rest in paradise, my friend.

Amazing chef..giving human being gone too soon.Prayers to his family

Our hearts were saddened upon hearing of the loss of Omar. Unfortunately we did not meet him but through his kindness he gave our son, daughter and son-in-law a job at Moto. We are forever grateful for his generous nature. His creativity and forward-thinking cannot be replaced. Blessings of peace,love and strength to his family. With our sympathy

Omar, I remember this young man I met when he graduated culinary school with my son Andrew, I am not sure if he was 17 or 18 at the time but he was so very young. These two young men were already bonded. And so it began. He was an an inspiration to many even then including my son . They were , even then trying out always the craziest things, and would work/play on these into early morning hours. I just loved how these two had such a strong brother-friend relationship. It never ended, it just became stronger. Omar was destined for greatness even then. The passion he had was infectious. But the great heart he had for humanity was something else. He always seemed so much wiser than his age, Oh so young....always driven to make this a better world, he never thought of himself first, just others. I loved you Omar. How painful this loss is to not only to the world, to my son, myself, but first and always the three girls in his life...Katie, Ella, and Gracie....his spirit will always be watching over you in the Moon Above. Omar you are in my heart.

I can't even begin to explain how inspired both Olivia and I are by Omar's life. His generosity of words and kindness will never be forgotten. What a positive impact he made. Please know that we are always here for you.

Homaro Cantu, what an innovator, what an inspiring chef, who creatively targetted issues related to healthy cuisine and world hunger, by exploring the intersection of the synthetic vs artificial. What Homaro accomplished, reminds me of what a generous and loving God we have, who gave mankind among many things, all the vegetation and food on earth today(genesis 1:29,30). Homaro always referenced methods of turning local vegetation in your own backyard, into full meals which could have profound implications for people living in third world countries who wouldn't have to go hungry. It reminds me of another wonderful provision from God, that promises a time in the near future when people will " build houses and live in them, they will plant vineyards and eat them..." (Isaiah 65:21,22). We look forward to this promise and hope from God. My deepest symapthy to Homaro's family, the world has lost a creative man.

It is such a tragedy when a young and talented person's life is cut short. My sincere condolences May God comfort you in this time of loss.

You were kind, generous, incredibly creative. You brought energy everywhere you went. You sparked thoughts in everyone who you met! My thoughts are with the chefs, young and established, struggling and staging - who you helped. And with your family and friends. Especially your wife and daughters. Thoughts and prayers with them. Rest in peace eternal. So many more ideas we all wanted to hear from you. Your dash is enormous.

He was my hero, he was my inspiration to become a chef, I've been following his actions since before he even opened MOTO, being only 21 now, I spoke with him via YouTube and Facebook and all I've wanted since I was 12 was to work with him and learn from him. I've never met him in person but I feel like I've lost one of my best friends. This is indeed a massive loss to the world.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Like many others we never met Homaro, but our lives were touched by him all the same. From truly memorable Moto dinners, that clearly showed a truly unique sense of fun and science combining to elevate food to a new experience...to obsessively reading his Facebook posts about his stolen laptop, to his TV shows, to reading about all the new endeavors... all these experiences will be memories forever for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Even though I have never met Chef Homaro, I looked up to him as one of my idols. He was someone I looked up to as as an up and coming chef. He will be missed dearly as I mourn his loss. Rest in Peace, Chef.

I got to know Omar a bit since he opened Berrista. He was charming, friendly and incredibly generous with his time and ideas. I'll miss him.
