Herbert L. Brown, 79, of Longmont passed away November 13, 2017, at Longmont United Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 21, 1937, in Lincoln, NE, to Herbert G. and Sylvia (Pencil) Brown. He moved with his family to Chula, MO, and graduated from Chillicothe High School.

Herbert began his college education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he met the love of his life Nancy Seawell. They were married on August 29, 1964, at the University Chapel. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Missouri Valley College.

He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.

Herbert spent his career with the Social Security Administration, where he quickly moved up the ranks, relocating frequently before finally settling in Durango, CO, in 1981. He retired in 1993 after 25 years with Social Security.

Herbert was a member of Saint Columba Catholic Church in Durango. He relocated to Longmont, CO, in 2009 to be closer to family.

Herbert was passionate about preserving family history through genealogy research and exploration of old cemeteries. He also enjoyed fishing and horseback riding.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Martha Elliott, Margie Lutticke, and Bernice Dawkins, and brothers Lewis Kilburn and Roy Kilburn.

Herbert is survived by his wife Nancy, children Cindy Poinsett and husband Mark, David Brown and wife Veronica, Cara Frihauf and husband Ben, and Jana Schulder; grandchildren Ethan Poinsett, Jacob and Daniela Brown, Madison Hert and husband Matt, Hope and Ella Frihauf, and Casey and Christian Schulder; and sisters Joan Gibson, Mary Lollar, and Marcia Clegg.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Saint Columba Catholic Church, Durango, CO, with inurnment at Greenmount Cemetery, Durango.
