Heidi Mugler Obituary

On the morning of October 18th, 2017, Heidi Ochsner Mugler was called to Heaven from Durango, CO.

Heidi was born and raised in Wisconsin. She started college at Marquette University where her father was an alumnus, and after a year, transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where she was a vibrant member of the Delta Gamma fraternity.

Heidi met her future husband Chris Mugler at OU. She graduated from the University with a BS in vocational home economics and a teaching certificate. She also played oboe in both of the University's concert bands, and later in the Wauwatosa, WI. Recreational Band, and she was the fire baton twirler for OU's marching band, the Marching Pride.

After marrying Chris, Heidi did substitute teaching in Hartford, CT and Milwaukee, WI for both the city and county school systems. The couple moved to Kirkwood, MO (a suburb of St. Louis, MO) in 1961.

As the three Mugler children were being raised, Heidi taught exercise and high impact aerobics in and around Kirkwood for more than 24 years, helped invent the diet protein drink Light Fantastic, and ran her business, Heidi Mugler's ExAerobics, where she personally choreographed all her exercise and aerobics routines to music.

Heidi first came to Durango when she was 10 with her mother, Hellen Ochsner, and her father, Stanley Edward Ochsner, to live with Stanley's brother, Dr, B.J. Ochsner, for a year.

Heidi and Chris moved to Durango from Kirkwood in 1997. Heidi earned a Master Gardener certificate from Colorado State University, and she was also a past president of the High Country Garden Club of Durango.

Heidi loved her many dogs, specifically Bernese Mountain Dogs, which she bred from her Ochsnerhof Kennels. Heidi's Berners were her pride and joy, and she showed them frequently over the years, winning many honors and awards.

Heidi worked with many organizations including Girls Inc. in St. Louis, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Delta Gamma, where she was at one time, National Rush Chairmen, was awarded the DG Cable award, and in Durango, was elected president of the Four Corners Delta Gamma Alumnae Association. She also served on the board of directors for Durango's Music in the Mountains, and was a vice president of Durango Friends of the Arts.

Heidi leaves behind her daughters, Heidi Katherine Mugler Wood and Elizabeth "Libby" Ochsner Storts, her son, Henry "Hans" Christopher Mugler III, and two grandchildren, Elisabeth "Elsa" Ochsner Storts and Brick Pomeroy Storts V.

Heidi will be buried in Prairie du Sac, WI. with her mother and father. Donations may be made in Heidi's honor to "Music in the Mountains", musicinthemountains.com, Delta Gamma, and Mercy Hospice House in Durango.

Heidi, you have left this world some years ago, but I just wanted you to know you will remain in my heart forever. Just like this picture shows us at the high school prom, my loving memories of you will always remind me of how much I lost. You were a warm sharing person who brought out the best in the people who knew you.
