Heather Kill Obituary

Heather Renee Kill, 44, of Durango, CO gracefully passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at her home after a short battle with cancer. Heather was born Sept. 14, 1972 to F. Linn Gain and Mary A. Gain in Peoria, IL where she was raised with her two brothers, Gary and Michael. She moved to Denver, CO in 1985 and later relocated to Durango where she remained. In 2005 she gave birth to her only child, Nathan. Heather attended Fort Lewis College and graduated Cum Laude in 2012. She was employed at First United Methodist Church and was also an active member there for many years. Heather frequently volunteered her time and gave of herself freely. She loved all children and animals and would often rescue strays. She loved music and always danced like no one was watching. Heather was a wonderful mother and more than anything loved to spend time with her son.
Heather is survived by her husband, Bradley Kill and son, Nathan Gain, 12, both of Durango, CO; mother, Mary Hart; siblings, Gary Gain and Michael Gain all of Peoria IL; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, F. Linn Gain in 1993.
There will be a public visitation at Hood Mortuary, 1261 E. Third Ave, from 5:00 to 7:00PM Thursday, June 1, 2017. A memorial service and reception will be held at 11:00AM Friday, June 2, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive, Durango, CO 81301.

I used to work with Heather at Applebee's, i am proud to say she was my friend for a short time.
I want to express my deepest condolences to Heather's family, and most of all her son. I knew him when he was a baby, he was her whole world. Heather was always kind and fun to be around. She was soft spoken and quiet at first but once i got to know her i learned that she was really funny. She often drove me home, even when it was a long day. More than anything i remember her being such a good mom, she adored her son and loved him to pieces.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

I see you so vividly in my mind, I see you smiling, so proud of your son and such a committed mom, I see you so happy and in love with Brad and planning your next adventure whether it be camping, a Rockies game or a cruise, I see kindness and compassion for others especially misfit and stray animals, I see all of your adorable outfits and picture you laughing and as I think of you and picture you in my mind I too will smile as I remember your beautiful spirit and what a gift it was to have my heart touched by you.

I see your smile in your son, I've seen the love in the eyes of your mother and brothers. What you've left behind is etched in our hearts for our lives, and you aren't forgotten. Little girl I will so miss your pictures and the joy of life you shared with those that took the time to see. I wish I could have written you a song to compare with the beauty you had an abundance of, I hope that in some small way each member of the family knows I didn't have to work thru your song, it was for you and that made it simple to bring out, but I can't tell you it wasn't thru tears, you will always be so much more beautiful inside than anything I could have written, please know sweet one, I tried. May the day come soon for each of us where the joy of knowing and remembering you casts the sorrow of this loss to a more tolerable place, and that smiles of remembrance of just having had you in our lives outshines all else. Rest well and in peace sweet girl, you won't be forgotten, and always loved.
Rick
