Harry Agnew Obituary

Harry Jerrett Agnew, Jr. (Jer) was born in Huntington Park, California, on February 8, 1934 to Harry Jerrett Agnew and Helen Dierker Agnew. He passed away, peacefully, in Littleton, Colorado, on May 16, 2022

Jer grew up in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, attended Rice University and graduated from Tulsa University in Petroleum Engineering in 1956. He and his brother-in-law, Tom Sullivan, developed an oil field in Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1974. In 1979 he became a real estate developer in Evergreen, Colorado, where he met his wife-to-be, Shauna.

Jer and Shauna purchased a 230-acre farm in Oklahoma in 1984 and raised racehorses. They also established Jarrett Farm Country Inn and were innkeepers for 10 years. Eventually, they moved to Durango, Colorado where he served on the La Plata County Planning Commission. During his life, he loved to fly his plane, play golf, hike, travel and get together with friends for bridge or dinner.

Friends will remember him for his quick, hearty laugh and boundless energy and ambition.

Jer is survived by his devoted wife, Shauna, and the children he loved, Leslie Agnew (Philip) Polasek, Richard A. Agnew, Jennifer Agnew (Gregg) Malley, and Shauna's children, Peter (Kerri) Merkel and Patricia A. Merkel. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Rosemary) Agnew and James (Peg) Agnew, as well as 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Lance J. (Rebecca) Agnew, Shauna's daughter, Megan Merkel (Ken) Kelly, and his dear sister, Jeanne Agnew Sullivan.

There will be a private Celebration of Life held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Mercy Hospice House, Mercy Hospital, Durango, CO.
