Harold Shure Obituary

Harold Shure, 93, of Durango Colorado, passed away of natural causes on June 29th, surrounded by family. He was born on May 2nd, 1932 in Minneapolis to Sam and Sylvia Shure.

Harold was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather and an active member of Har Shalom and the Mussar Group. He was a psychiatrist who spent his professional career, first investigating schizophrenia, and then helping people with substance abuse at Colorado State Hospital (Pueblo) or with major mental disorders as the physician in charge of Denver General Hospital's Community Boardwalk program.

During his long retirement, Harold lived for his grand and great grandchildren, devoting endless hours in play with his grandkids and regularly driving for days to see his grandkids in Los Angeles and Denver. He lived a simple life dedicated to spirituality, contemplation, strenuous physical exercise, chocolate, and increasing the happiness of dogs.

Harold was predeceased by his sisters Shirley and Anna, and his brother Asher. He is survived by his four children (and their spouses) Brandi (and Patrick) Piller, Holly Shure (and Richard Leavitt), Aaron (and Tiffany) Shure, Joel (and Chris) Shure, and all their kids and their kids' kids. If you knew him, you loved him.

He is buried at Greenmount Cemetery, Durango. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Harold requested that donations be made to one's favorite charity. He leaves a legacy of love.

I have very fond memories of Grandpa Hal playing games with my brother and I when we were young. He was a great man and a great grandfather. He will be dearly missed and we will love him always.

What a sweet, soft spoken gentleman Harold was. He always had a smile and a hello whenever I would see him at north city, where I worked for many years. My condolences to his family and friends!
