Harold Green Obituary

Harold Lee Green passed away on October 19th, 2023. He left peacefully at his home in Bayfield, CO, in his own bed with his wife by his side. He was born in Forest City, NC 97 years earlier on September 10th, 1926. Harold grew up in Asheville, NC, a high school valedictorian and track star, he held a deep love of engineering and technology.

Harold learned to fly and kept that hobby through much of his life. His passions also led him into a lifelong career in radio and television. From on-air personality to general manager, owner, engineer and interviewer, he loved every aspect of bringing entertainment, news and sports into people's homes. He spent much of this time in Washington DC including working in the White

House through five administrations. Harry Truman regularly called him "son." Harold spent many years building radio and television stations across the US.

Harold's greatest loves were his family, his Christian faith, and his community. Harold was the eldest of four children growing up during the great depression. He spent every day ensuring his family and four children of his own would have the opportunities he wasn't afforded as a child.

Wherever he went, he found himself a humble leader offering guidance, wisdom, and an unbiased ear to those around him. He always looked for opportunities to serve. The children in his neighborhood would often stop by and ask his wife, "Could Mr. Harold come out and play?"

Harold leaves behind his wife Carolyn; daughter Patricia and her husband Jerry, daughter Stormy, daughter Betsy and her husband Roger and son Miles and his wife Kristi, along with many nieces and nephews. He now meets his parents Miles and Vera; siblings Melba, Max and Earl and daughter Kathryn in God's glory.

A celebration of Harold's life will be held November 11th, 2023 at Life Church Bayfield, 699 Bayfield Pkwy, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Life Church Bayfield, directed to the Casa Hogar, a home for special needs children in Oaxaca Mexico.

I am so sad to hear of Hal's passing. I was lucky enough to call him friend when he owned the radio station in Durango. I am sorry I have forgotten the name of it now. He was a wonderful person and always so positive. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family during this most difficult time.

I was privileged to meet Harold through my long friendship with his daughter, Betsy. He was at once larger than life, down to earth, and so very warm. He will be missed and celebrated. My LOVE goes out to Betsy, Pat, Miles, Carolyn and all in his circles. Warmly, Wendy Dubit

Carolyn so very sorry to hear of the passing of Harold. Not sure if you remember me, I worked for Ted Hermesman back when I helped remodel KIQX studio. The last time I got to talk with him was the nights your son was playing basketball at the rec ctr. I will miss him and our talks. My condolences to you and your whole family.
