Glen Marx Obituary

Lifelong Hesperus resident Glen Peter Marx died from liver cancer Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at his home. He was 26. Mr. Marx was diagnosed Aug. 6, 2011.

Mr. Marx was born to Pete and Susan Marx on April 22, 1986, in Durango. In his younger years, he enjoyed singing, preaching to his family and pretending to drive cars. His family remembers him protecting his schoolmates from bullies and teasing his younger siblings, especially his sisters when it came to boyfriends.

After graduating from Durango High School in 2004, he became a tire technician at Peerless Tyre Co. and a mechanic at Vandegrift Diesel to support his family. Becoming a mechanic was one Mr. Marx's passions, and he built a number of vehicles for speed and power, which he continued to do until his death.

He enjoyed being with his family and cruising around the Four Corners as fast as possible, his family said. When he wasn't driving in real life, he was racing in his many video games. He was an avid camper, and he also enjoyed four-wheeling, mud-bogging and hunting. He also enjoyed bodybuilding and, although he had to stop participating because of his illness, he hoped to get back into it someday.

"Glen was the best big brother anyone could ask for. He was my hero," his sister Amy Foster said. "He loved helping people any chance he could and prayed for other cancer patients every night. He was always worried about everyone but himself."

Mr. Marx is survived by his parents, Pete and Susan Marx, of Hesperus; sisters Amanda Marx and Rose Marx, both of Durango, and Amy Foster of Wichita Falls, Texas; brother, Leo Marx of Durango; and half-brother, Matt Marx of Grand Junction.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. today, Aug. 8, 2012, at St. Mary's Church, 2100 E. 20th St., in Farmington. A Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, in Spencer, Neb.
