Gerald Pope Obituary
He is survived by his wife Patricia Pope; brothers: Joseph Pope and Michael Pope; daughter, Gina Heineman Pope; and sons: Gerald Pope, Joseph Pope, and David Pope; as well as 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who all held him very dearly in their hearts.
Gerald proudly served in the Marine Corps as a Corporal where he worked as a fire fighter with the crash units for the air base. He was a mechanic by trade in the oil field chemical industry and also in the aircraft industry where he also joined their Haz-mat crews, utilizing his firefighting training.
Gerald was an avid motorcycle enthusiast for over 60 years and loved to ride his Harley Davidson through the mountain roads, especially from Durango to Silverton. He loved gardening and working to make his yard and his home beautiful. He was always first to give a helping hand to family and friends in need, or even a strangers. He was a great man and loved by many and will forever be in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave., Durango, CO.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Mercy, c/o Mercy Health Foundation, 1010 Three Springs, CO 81301.

My Papa!
It's been a long ride. I am so happy you are not suffering anymore. But I miss you with all of my heart. You were my best friend, my cheerleader, my strength, my heart. You will continue to be all those things to me, as I keep you close to my heart. As far as directions go, I am lost. You always drew me maps and directions to where I needed to go, knowing how bad I was with directions. You always took the time to make sure I'd get there and back, calling and checking up on me, until I was safe at home. We have always been so much alike. I will miss you the most as I tend our garden, for that is where we shared our biggest bond. With every flower that blooms, I shall feel your love and your sweet spirit. Until we meet in Heaven Papa, I will spread your love with each seed that I plant.
