Gerald Lucas Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Lucas passed away at his home on January 7, 2024, with his daughter, Krista, by his side. He left this earth knowing that he was loved by many.

Jerry was born on September 8, 1948, to Lester and Velma Lucas in Gallup, NM. He graduated high school in Gallup in 1966 and then attended the University of New Mexico, playing football for two years before injuring his knee. He started working construction with his father and while on a job in Saguache, Colorado, he met his wife, Conni (Young) Lucas.

Jerry and Conni were married in Gallup, NM on January 19, 1972. Their only child, Krista Mae, was born in 1976. After her birth, they moved to Durango where Jerry and his partners started an excavation company, Melco,Inc. After the sale of Melco, Jerry was involved in many successful businesses, including Four Corners Livestock Commission in Breen, CO.

Jerry loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and horseman. He loved playing Polocrosse with his daughter and his friends. He won three national championships and numerous other tournaments with his team, The Amigos. He especially loved owning racehorses and watching them run at various racetracks.

He was preceded in death by his father Lester and his mother Velma and nephew John Lester.

He is survived by his daughter Krista, sisters, Patricia DeArmond, Alecia Battastini, and brothers, Mike Lucas and George Lucas. Numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring, At the the first annual "Jerry Lucas Memorial Poker Ride."
