Geneva Freeman Obituary

Former La Plata County resident Geneva Ellen Freeman died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in Pilot Point, Texas. She was 79.

Mrs. Freeman was born to John T. and Hazel Gray on Oct. 9, 1934, in Falfa, a small town on Florida Mesa. She grew up in Falfa.

After earning a certified nursing assistant degree, Mrs. Freeman worked at the old Mercy Hospital and Eventide Nursing Home, now Four Corners Health Care Center.

She married Willis L. Freeman.

In 1976, the Freemans moved to Aztec, and Mrs. Freeman worked at San Juan Manor in Farmington.

Mrs. Freeman enjoyed doing crafts, knitting and crocheting. She attended Free Methodist Church and was involved in the Salvation Army Home League program, which supports development of Christian standards in women's personal lives.

Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Willis L. Freeman; and daughter Mary Jane Hobbs.

She is survived by her children Melvin Freeman of Kirtland, N.M., William Freeman of San Diego, John Darryl Freeman of Kansas City, Kan., and Ivy Thompson of Pilot Point; sister, Margaret Fulks of Durango; about 30 grandchildren; and about 15 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Aztec Cemetery, 700 Chamisa St. The Rev. Robert Turner will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to help with the cemetery expense would be appreciated by the family. Contributions may be mailed to Aztec Cemetery, 700 Chamisa St., Aztec, NM 87410.
