Frank Thomason Obituary

Former Durango resident Frank Mera Thomason died after a long illness Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Escondido, Calif. He

was 62.

Mr. Thomason was born to Billy James and Edith Londean Mera Thomason on May 23, 1948, in Berkeley, Calif. He grew up

there and spent his summers in Santa Fe with his grandparents. He graduated from Brophy Academy in Phoenix and Arizona

State University in Tempe.

Mr. Thomason worked for many years in the food-service industry in Phoenix and Durango. He moved to Durango in 1978,

where he worked at the Assay Office, Solid Muldoon and Ore House and was the manager of Dante's and the PowderHouse at

Purgatory, Hamilton's Chop House at Cascade Village and Mama's Boy Italian Ristorante. His most recent career was in

real estate at Bobbie Carll Realty in Durango.

He loved the outdoors, especially skiing, camping, the beaches of Mexico, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and fly

fishing on Vallecito and Cascade creeks. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Willie.

Mr. Thomason was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Jane Thomason.

He is survived by his sons Sam Thomason of Albuquerque and Silas Thomason of Golden; former companion of 20 years

Bobbie Carll of Durango; brothers Mike Thomason of Cottonweed, Ariz., and Pat Thomason of Tennessee; sisters Barbara

Jakola of Phoenix and Jane Joseph of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has occurred, and his ashes will be scattered at a later date by the family. A memorial service will be held

in Durango on the anniversary of his birth, Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Cascade Park. For details, call Carll at
