Francesca Gillming Obituary

Former Durango resident Francesca Patricia Gillming died of a massive stroke Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, in Glenwood Springs. She was 64.

Known as "Frannie," she was born to Leila Barrie and Francis Moffitt on April 26, 1948, in Los Angeles. She earned her bachelor's degree from Loretta Heights College and her master's degree from Antioch University.

She spent more than 40 years in Glenwood Springs in the Roaring Fork Valley along with much time, in the more recent years, in Durango where she cultivated many friendships, her family said.

Her early years in the Roaring Fork Valley were spent with her first husband, the late James Moorman, and their two daughters and his daughter, Brynn.

In 1987, she met her future husband, Maurice Gillming.

Mrs. Gillming was a board-certified counselor at the Youth Recovery Center and Colorado West Mental Health. She worked with young people who were dealing with issues of drug and alcohol abuse.

In Glenwood Springs, she was active in the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, the Defiance Thrift Store, Lift Up, which works with the poor and homeless, Advocate Safe House and the Valley Sexual Abuse Program.

She enjoyed travel, pets and helping others, her family said, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Gillming was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Darby Moorman.

She is survived by her daughters, Barrie Moorman of Silt and Torrie Moorman of Carbondale; stepdaughters, Erin Gillming of New Castle, Brynn Rials of Bradenton, Fla., and Ingrid Gillming of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, Richard Moffitt of Las Vegas; former husband, Maurice Gillming of Glenwood Springs; two grandchildren; and one niece.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1885 Blake Ave., in Glenwood Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Recovery Center, c/o Valley View Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1970, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602.
