Evangelina Garcia Obituary

Longtime Allison resident Evangelina Maria Banigy "Elba" Garcia died of complications from congestive heart failure Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. She was 66.

Mrs. Garcia was born July 29, 1946, in La Cañada, N.M., the daughter of Abran and Pablita Lucero. She grew up in New Mexico and the San Diego area. She returned to New Mexico near Rosa, but lived most of her life in Allison, where she raised all of her children. She married Jerry Ulibarri in Durango in 1982.

Mrs. Garcia's family said she enjoyed watching the television comedy "The Golden Girls." She was a great cook, liked to go to the casino and enjoyed doing crafts. She was fond of Spanish music and liked to dance, especially in her red high-heeled shoes. She also adored her pet dogs.

She made sure that all of her children and grandchildren were taken care of, as she was a very giving woman, her family said.

"If she had it and you needed it, it was yours," her family said.

Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ulibarri, in October 2011.

She is survived by daughters Nora Garcia of Arboles, Anna Lucero of Seminole, Texas, Tinnie Fulks of Ignacio, Josie Tackett of Allison and Bobbie Jo Martin of Farmington; sons Joe Garcia of San Angelo, Texas, Ernie Garcia of Ignacio and Jerry Ulibarri Jr. of Farmington; brothers Celestino Lucero of Grand Junction, Max Lucero of Durango and Pete Lucero of Allison; sister, Viola Montoya, of Allison; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous other family members.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Pine River Valley Baptist Church on Highway 172 in Bayfield. Pastor David McCaw will officiate. Burial will occur at Pine River Cemetery.
