Elmer Thompson Obituary

Elmer Thompson was born to Daniel and Maria (Buvall) Thompson on October 3, 1931 at Mercy Hospital in Flagstaff, AZ. He passed away on August 22, 2016 at the VA hospital in Walsenburg, CO.

He was the only child and was very loyal and loving to his mother. Elmer entered the US Air Force on January 5, 1951 and was honorably discharged on December 16, 1954. He was an active member of the American Legion in his later years.

On November 13, 1952, Elmer married the love of his life, Gertrude Sawyer. Together, they raised three sons and one daughter in Bayfield, CO. Elmer loved spending time hunting and fishing with his family. There are many stories and memories to share from his children and grandchildren.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and his wife, Gertrude.

He is survived by: his sons: Marvin (Margo) of Phoenix, AZ; Roy (Allison) of Canton, TX; Dale (Sandra) of Watson, MO; his daughter, Debbie (Jim) Applegate of Durango, CO; grandchildren, Robin Hickman, Kimberly Wright, Kelly Burns, Rebecca Applegate, Colleen Tidwell, Justin Thompson, Kevin Applegate, Tanya Thompson, and Jacob Thompson; 8 great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
