What a soulful voice love listening here in the U.K a legend Sir RIP Grandpa

I always went to see when I came to New Orleans him and I would sing together and was most enjoyable times of my life. I will miss him.

What a man and what a voice. I loved Granpa Elliot and played stand by me when I lost my brother which he loved. He will live on with playing for change who I know will miss him but they´ll carry on his legacy. I wish I´d had the fortune to meet him and the rest of them but he will be in all our hearts forever. Fly high and god bless Granpa

Many years ago, I sang Stand by Me with Grampa Elliott one hot September afternoon on Rue Royal. I will never forget that wonderful experience. REST IN PEACE, GRAMPA!

You touched so many people that you don't even realize. My granddaughter (1 1/2 yrs old) has a thing for you. Any time you pop up on the TV she stops everything and is glued to watching you. We all love you.

I just recently found out about Grandpa Elliot’s death. I’ve grown up listening to his songs on the regular-as my old man is his biggest fan. If someone has his families contact info I would love to get in touch.

He brought great joy and much love to many! When I heard him sing "Stand by Me" for the first time, I felt like I knew him. I must have played the song over 20 times in one sitting. It did not stop there as I would play it again and again. I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a great man. Thank you Grandpa for all the joy you brought near and far!

Grandpa Elliott was a blessing to this life. What a wonderful, gentle soul. And so many people have been affected by his music. I am only familiar with his work with Playing for Change. My heart soars for him, we miss him.

We really enjoyed Grandpa's music. It's a great loss not only to NOLA but to the world.

I would go on musical "walk-about"s on the internet and through that I found Playing for Change. The more videos I watched the more I came to love a group of musicians and at the core of that group was an energenic ,funny sweet fella that played harmonica and sang like angel . His name was Grandpa Elliott . I lost contact with my musical wondering and only started back recently. I had seen something about Grandpa Elliott but couldn't find the whole article and today I found the memorial/ celebration of life video and knew for certain we had lost a great musician and an irreplaceable man. My heart goes out to Grandpa Elliott's family and friends . For you have known this wonderful person in a way I will never . Grandpa I have no doubt there was a place with your name on it ,waiting for you to arrive so fly away Grandpa Elliott and we will see you again bye and bye

I have been a PFC member for z number of years. It was watching a video with Grandpa Elliot that drew me in to joining PFC. I loved seeing how his spirit was never broken despite all the challenges in his life. He will be missed greatly, both for his music and his essence.

Grandpa Elliots music helped lift my spirits and survive the pandemic. Sorry I never got to visit him in New Orleans. I hope to see him on the other side..his spirit lives on. With gratitude from a loving fan.

My family loved grandpa! I met him on his corner in NOLA. He sang and took pictures with my sister and I. I told him of my young granddaughter s love for him. He gave me his phone number for her to call on her Birthday. He sang Happy Birthday to her over the phone. This was an act of kindness from Grandpa that we’ll never forget! He was a gracious and kind man and he’ll be forever in our hearts. Condolences to his family. Rest In Peace Grandpa.

Round 2009 I was stationed in New Orleans for couple months. I got up early on a Saturday morning walk around town. I met up with Grandpa on a street corner and go to talking about his music, his huge collection of harmonicas. There was something so magical about him. I invited him to lunch, his pick of place, we talked, laughed and listen to his life and stories for a couple hours. Thank you Grandpa RIO.

Grandpa Elliot will always be missed.

When I was in my early 20’s and just learning photography, I would peruse the streets of the French Quarter looking for interesting subjects. Two of my favorite street performers were Grandpa Elliott and Stoney B. Their ability to grab everyone’s attention was amazing, as was the music they made. Many years later Grandpa Elliot would find worldwide success with “Playing for Change”, though I knew he was a star the moment I first saw him play the harmonica and sing. He passed away recently but I’ll always have great memories of him. He’s the reason I learned to play “Somewhere over the Rainbow” on harmonica. He showed me how to play it. The sound of the French Quarter will never be the same. You touched the lives of many including mine. Rest easy Grandpa.

Grandpa Elliott was a sweet friend of mine. I had the privilege to be one of his nurses. Gonna miss singing to him at night. He is a true New Orleans Blues legend! Now he’s singing and playing his harmonica with the angels in Heaven.
