Edwin Willems Obituary
He was born and raised in Kansas with his two older sisters. He received his PhD in Psychology and Social Science from the University of Kansas. Later in his career, he accepted an offer from the University of Houston to teach and head up significant research projects. He received recognition as the founding director for the Scholars community Program.
Ed and his wife, Jeanne, have resided in Durango for the last 12 years. Many residents and retail personnel will remember him as kind and mild-mannered. He didn't want to just say "hi" when he greeted you. He remembered your name and with all sincerity wanted to know how you and your family were doing.
A service of remembrance will be held at a future date with immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, daughters Debbie, Jean, Megan, and son Pete.
The memory of those we have dearly loved stays in our hearts forever.

Truly a scholar, gentleman and agent for positive growth. He was my favorite graduate professor while in my Ph.D. Social Psychology program at the University of Houston many decades ago.

I remember every day Ed´s teachings of consequences of actions and how our individual behaviors impact others. This holistic philosophy is so essential to our world today. I will always be thankful that his sociology background found its way into our psychology program at U of H. Thank you always Ed.

Ed was the committee chair for my dissertation at University of Houston, as well as professor in a few of my classes. His orientation toward systems thinking had a profound and lasting effect on not only my work in the field of psychology but also in my worldview of life and my personal relationships. I cannot emphasize enough his value to me. I only today learned of his passing. I am so grateful for his place in my life and I wish the best for his family.
