Dorothy Strain Obituary

Longtime Bayfield resident Dorothy Elaine Strain died of natural causes Saturday, May 15, 2010, in Bayfield. She was

75.

Mrs. Strain was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Longmont to Raymond and Gladys Allen. She and her family moved to Durango in

1968, and later to Bayfield in 1992.

She purchased the old Martha's Clothes Closet and began a career in retail. For years, she ran the Under the Rainbow

holistic gift shop at College Drive and Seventh Avenue.

Her family remembers a woman who was caring and loving to family and friends.

“There are many people in the community who were touched by her. She opened her home to everyone, even the homeless.

She was an asset to the community," her son Scott Miller said.

She is preceded in death by daughter Dolores Springer.

She is survived by her husband, John; her son Scott Miller of Monument; and daughters Cheryl Linde and Ginger Peters of

Hereford, Ariz., and Tiffany Rizzo of Glendale, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Rotary Park in Durango.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to the La Plata County Humane

Society, 1111 South Camino del Rio, Durango, CO 81303.

Dorothy was a dear friend of my mother: they were friends since childhood and the children were friends growing up. I remember going to see Cabaret with her daughter Cheryl when we were tweenagers. I'm so sad to just be reading this. Rest in peace Dorothy.
