Dorothy Jarrell Obituary

Dorothy Louise Jarrell died of natural causes Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. She was 92.

Mrs. Jarrell was born to Robert and Lillian (Odyers) Tomsha on Feb. 12, 1919, in Colorado Springs, where she grew up and went to school.

On Nov. 2, 1936, she married Harry Lee Jarrell in Colorado Springs. All of their children were born in Colorado Springs.

The family moved back and forth, from Colorado Springs to Littleton and back, and spent 10 years in Texas. The couple finally settled in the Durango area in 1979.

Mrs. Jarrell enjoyed playing cards, gardening, watching cooking shows and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Animas Valley Grange and Sarah Rebekah Lodge No. 20.

Mrs. Jarrell was preceded in death by her sons, Harry Lee Jarrell and Donny Lee Jarrell, and a granddaughter, Sarah Heikkinen.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Harry Lee Jarrell of Durango; daughters, Elaine Heikkinen of Farmington and Linda Partridge of Durango; son, Larry Jarrell of Farmington; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary in Durango. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
