Dorothy Dudley Obituary

Durango resident Dorothy Y. Dudley died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her home. She was 85.

Mrs. Dudley was born to Harold and Anne Hacker on May 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

On June 19, 1943, she married Arthur Dudley in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a homemaker.

During the last 30 years of her life, she pursued spiritual and personal growth and was an elder of the Ascended Masters Foundation.

After her husband died, she lived in California and New Jersey.

She enjoyed dancing and singing. Since moving to Durango in 1999 to be close to her daughter, Shakti Dudley, she also had enjoyed reading to children at the Durango Public Library.

"To her dear friends, Dottie was a beautiful, classy woman who loved the people around her unconditionally," her family wrote. "Dorothy is best known for her inner beauty that shined forth onto everyone. Those that met Dorothy often fell in love instantly. Dorothy was a very bright light in many people's lives."

Mrs. Dudley was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Arthur Dudley.

In addition to her daughter, Shakti Dudley, of Durango, she is survived by her son, Steven Dudley, of Greenwich, Conn.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at IlluminArts Photography Studio, 1140 Main Ave. Suite C, which may be accessed from the alley between 11th and 12th streets.
