Donald Greve Obituary

Donald Albert Greve passed away March 7, 2025 at Sunshine Gardens Memory Care in Durango. His wife, Sharon and his daughters, Gretchen and Idelle were by his side.

Don was born to Walter and Ethel Greve October 4, 1934 in Pueblo Co. He graduated from Centennial High school then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacology in 1955. He married Gail Snyder in 1955. They moved to Durango in 1956.

Don worked as a Pharmacist at Wall Drug alongside Carl Albrecht, the owner. He later purchased the drug store and owned it for many years. The store later became Olde Tymer's Cafe. Don and Gail had three children; Don, Gretchen and Idelle. In September 1981 he married Sharon Wilcox in Durango.

Don was a wonderful Pharmacist and Businessman. He was very devoted to his clients. He was honest, caring, and knowledgeable. His clients had his home phone number if they needed something. His children remember many holidays that he had to go to the store, fill a prescription and deliver it.

He purchased a cabin at Electra Lake where he enjoyed water skiing, fishing and hunting with all of his family and friends. He often made crazy moves in the boat to shock us!

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his children; Don and wife Audrey, Gretchen and Idelle. He is also survived by Sharon's sons: Troy, Kevin, Kyle and Travis.

He was a wonderful father and husband.

He will be missed..

I am saddened to read about Don's passing. I remember my first year at FLC and meeting Don at Wall Drug. Such a cool drug store. I can still picture going in to fill a Rx by him. What a kind and helpful man. Then years later we were fortunate to work together on the Electra Lake Club matters. I would get him mixed up with the Parson's Drug pharmacist and he would correct me! He was smart and detailed and wanting the best for everybody. His professionalism and understanding of finance and management was very astute. I could tell he was a modest but distinguished community businessman and leader. He and Sharon were always adorable together. I could tell they cherished their beautiful cabin and lake views that they cared for lovingly. Don and Sharon had such love for each other and their community. I feel fortunate to have known Don. He was a very good man. I am sorry for your loss, Sharon and family.

Don was a wonderful mentor and friend. He was a huge part of my teenage and college years. I am so sorry for your loss.

Don was a very good man and an excellent pharmacist. My Dad, Ross Brown,
who owned the Basin Rexall Drug Store in Durango, worked part time for Wall Drug after he retired way back in 1972. Dad really enjoyed working Don's store and I enjoyed visiting Don and Gretchen when picking Dad up to/from work at Wall Drug.

Another , and one of the last, great downtown Durango businesmen that made Durango "what it was" back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

We will remember Don and the store forever,

Sincerely,

Doug Brown

I am one of those "Durango old timers" (though I no longer live there) who remembers Mr. Greve in his profession as pharmacist at Wall Drug. He was always pleasant and kind to my family, fulfilling our prescriptions and offering help with a friendly word and smile. I loved going to the "drug store" as a kid, with my parents, because it was special- such a lovely store from a bygone era- and Mr. Greve was who made it so. My condolences to his family, friends, and all who will miss him.
