Don Snyder Obituary

Don E. Snyder passed away Sunday, October 1st at his home, two weeks after his 89th birthday. He was born to Clarence and Trulie Snyder in Delta, CO on September 16, 1928 and served with the United States Army in Germany where he met his wife, Margot (Fory). Don was part of the Snyder family, that was instrumental in the founding of Fort Lewis College. He worked there as the Director of Continuing Education for many years, mentoring countless adults. During this time he also worked for KIUP as a radio announcer where he became known as the "Voice of the Rockies". He and Margot founded the "Nut Shack", a candy and nut shop. The Nut Shack was a local institution for 20 years, where he roasted nuts and baked cookies. Don was a proud member of the VIPs (Visually Impaired Persons). He is survived by Margot, his wife of 68 years, and their four children: Donovan, Thomas, Michael, and Debra; 6 grandkids, and 6 great-grandkids. A memorial will be planned at a later date.

Don was a jewel of a guy. I will always remember his great smile and voice.
But most of all I remember his kindness.

I will truly miss seeing him and chatting.
My sincere blessings to his family. He was man who cared for others. You all will be in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Fond memories of Uncle Don! (My children, Deana and Tom, had two Uncle Dons. So they called the Durango uncle, "The Candy Man" due to his running the Peanut Shack when they were young!) Aunt Margot and the rest of the family are in our thoughts and prayers.
