Deloris Wampner Obituary

Deloris "Dee" June Wampner passed away on June 23, 2023, she was 89 years old.

Deloris June Wampner was born in Enid, OK to Walter and Clara Driever on June 4th, 1934. The family moved to Durango, CO in 1944 where she graduated from Durango High School in 1952. Dee went on to graduate early from Blair Business College in Colorado Springs in 1954, then securing a job at NORAD. She later met and married the love of her life William "Bill" F. Wampner (from Marion, IN). They were married 63 years this June. In the early years, they traveled, camped, and put down family roots in Durango. Dee was an amazing mother who took great joy in raising her four children Tonya, Jeff, Renee, and Jon. Dee was always very involved in her children's lives. She supported and encouraged them to pursue the various activities and interests they all had. She and Bill went on to put that same energy, love, and dedication into all 8 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Above all, leading by example Dee and Bill taught their children and grandchildren what it truly meant to be a kind and a forgiving follower of Christ. Though Dee had a sharp and clever mind for business, she found great joy in painting, music, Bible studies, horses, the outdoors, and enjoyed exploring a variety of cuisines.

Deloris is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Wampner, sister Sharon Driever, children Tonya Strider, Jeff Wampner, Renee Patcheck, and Jon Wampner, as well as 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2611 Junction St., Durango, CO.

We are so sorry to hear about Dee´s passing. During our time in Durango we had the joy of knowing Dee and worshipping together with her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill and the rest of her family. What a big hole she has left in their lives and the lives of all who knew her.

I met Deloris Driever at DHS. I was a shy, little, country girl from Redmesa. She was always a friendly and happy girl, showing fine qualities. Following our class reunion celebrations, I hosted a girls luncheon in my home where she frequently attended. Everyone appreciated her fine qualities and enjoyed her company. She was a beautiful spirit! May you find peace through our Heavenly Father's blessings, along with a lifetime of positive memories.

I echo what Chris Shry said about growing up across the street from the Wampners. Dee was my girl scout troop leader for years. She made girl scout camp so fun. I spent a lot of time with Dee and the kids after school. She always made me feel welcome during play dates with "Ton."

Dee and I worked together at Ent AF Base in Colorado Springs in 1961 to 1962. Bill was in Tulle Greenland with the AF so Dee spent a lot of time with my husband and me. We became best friends--in fact my first daughter was named after her DeeDee. I returned to Washington state after my husband got out of the Army. Dee and Bill came out and visited with us with their new baby, Tonya. We had a wonderful time. I continued to visit Dee and Bill through the years being able to stop in Colorado on one of my many flights to Durango to visit my best friend. Was last able to visit her just a couple of years ago on one of my trips to Colorado. That friendship lasted a lifetime. She was and still is one of the most wonderful girls/women I have ever know. Love you Dee. I know I will see you again when I join you in the afterlife. Barb Bendtsen

I am so sorry for the loss of Dee. I remember her from when you lived on Highland eons ago. Such a vibrant person with a distinct laugh that stood out in a crowd. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
