Dean Furry Obituary

Durango lost an angel on November 22nd. If you were lucky enough to have known Dean Furry, you

know that there was not a kinder, gentler, more loving soul. He touched the lives of so many; whether

he put you "back together" as the amazing physician he was, your friend, or loved one, undoubtedly you

felt his gentleness, his compassion, his humbleness, and his sincere love for all. There was nothing more dear to Dean than his wife of 54 years, Nancy. Boy, is she going to miss you! You held her hand, picked her up, cherished her, took impeccable care of her, and always adored and loved her. The marriage you two shared has left a legacy, Your children; Kim, Susan, Tanya and Brad, thank you Dad for always leading by example, always giving freely and expecting nothing, you loved us no matter what. With you and mom we always knew we had a soft place to land.

You have 7 amazing grandsons; JJ, Jackson, Jeb, Kevin, Justin, Rick and Ben. We have always encouraged

our kids, when faced with a difficult decision or life lesson, "What would Papa do?" Always ask yourselves that... You can never go wrong if you listen to "his" heart. Papa will always be with you boys. Dean also had two amazing granddaughters, Aubrey and Emily, and a precious great grandson Quinn. Additionally, two great son in laws, Mike and Jimmy. And Andy, thank you! Dean, thank you for your life, your memories, your wisdom, and your kindness. Our father's dream was to die peacefully at his beloved Electra Lake, you won Dad! Cheers to you and your beautiful life! To all of the loved ones that went before, you sure are lucky to have him back! Our father's wish was to have no service upon his passing. His wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread near the beautiful lake

he was fortunate enough to be looking at when he took his last breath. We will honor his wishes. Our father, in lieu of flowers, wanted any donations to be given to the Hospice Center at Mercy Hospital in his honor. Goodbye Dean... Husband, Dad, & Papa! We love you and you will be forever missed!

His loss is a loss to all who knew this kind, gentle and happy spirit. He always took the time to really listen, whether as a friend or physician. The smile, the voice and twinkle in his eye will never be forgotten. I am thinking of you, Nancy, and the family....the memories you have will sustain you through this immeasureable loss.

as sweet and bright candles on the water! Heartfelt condolences to you, Nancy, his beloved wife. He honored the gift of you, his remarkable children, grands and great grand along with their loved ones, too.
Doc Dean lived the creed of healing others wherever he found himself. Office, ER, at home and for those who called upon him in an hour of need.
Rest well, good and faithful servant. The glorious sounds of your cello playing will continue in our hearts. I will deeply miss you, kind friend. ~O~

Thanks, Doctor Dean, for sharing the 'buggie' rides to rehearsal through the last eighteen years. Your many gifts of God and faithfulness will linger

Throughout his life so full in every way was always his love of music. I was privileged to share that with him for the twenty years the Electra Trio played together. I will miss that sonorous cello playing Mendelssohn or Beethoven. I will always miss his musical spirit.

When I was a teenager he did an amazing job operating on my left knee in a time where technology wasn't near as good as it is today.

I remember the very snowy night so many years ago when Dean and Nancy arrived in Durango after their honeymoon in Hawaii. I have many wonderful memories of this exceptional man and his family over the years. My parents had so many fabulous times with Dean and Nancy. We have lost a Durango legend.

I was so saddened to hear of Dr. Furry's passing. I have great admiration and respect for him and am very grateful to have worked and learned from him in the OR. He was truly one of the greatest...tough, but also so kind and caring. Though we know heaven has welcomed a very special person, our hearts still feel the sorrow. With Sympathy and Loving Prayer, Bonnie Sumner

Oh Clean Dean ... the memory that will be with me forever is the amazing feeling of harmony and happiness in a life's work - an offshoot of sincere mutual respect offered up by a true gentleman! I am just so thankful for our time together - you made me a better caregiver and a better person. I will miss that ever present Twinkle in your eyes! To Nancy, Kim and the whole family: May you find the strength and courage to somehow see you through.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dr. Furry was one of the nicest doctors I had the pleasure of working with; as an employee at Mercy. He always had a smile on his face and treated everyone with kindness. A true gem. Prayers for you and your family.

I find it difficult to write with my eyes filled with tears and my heart filled with sadness. He was a remarkable man who will be missed by all who knew him. I am honored to have worked with him. He taught me so much, and gave me confidence to get through some hard times.
