My all-time favorite major leaguer. It was a thrill watching you pitch at Yankees Stadium in the late 1960's and then catching up with you at a card show in the late 1990's where I had the opportunity to show you the scrap book I had kept for you for many years. RIP.

I never met Dean but followed his athletic career after having seen his basketball skills demonstrated at an Ohio High School Basketball Tournament. The game I saw, he was unstoppable and along with Bose Johnson they dominated the team I was, incidentally, backing. A great athlete!

My condolences to the family and friends of Dean Chance, the pride of Wooster, Ohio and a legend at Northwestern High School. You will be sadly missed and remembered by thousands of baseball fans across the country.
I can remember being 11 years old and catching you in Little League basball in New Pittsburg. I have never forgotten my mask being knocked off by one of your pitches--a memory never forgotten over the past 50 plus years... Thanks for giving so much.

I had the privilege of meeting Dean exactly 8 weeks before his death and I am heartbroken that he is so very quickly gone. We instantly were fast friends with our common connections, and I am beyond shocked with his death. He was...so very caring and concerned for me, helpful, modest, gregarious, kind, very wise and very sharp. I am very sorry and my condolences go out to his family and friends.

I was honored and blessed to have known Dean for over 50 years. In the summer of 1962 Dean Chance arranged for me to be the Angels batboy during a weekend series with the N.Y. Yankees. In preparation he even had the uniform tailored to my fitting. To this very day that remains a forever cherished highlight of my childhood.
Over the years we have remained close friends. I really enjoyed our talks over the phone in becoming current with what was going on in each of our lives. Listening to Dean share his experiences of on the field and off the field was always so captivating. He never missed a beat in recalling events that occurred 40-50 years ago. Dean really had a sharp mind.
Most recently I was privileged to have been invited by Dean to be with him, his son Brett and other close friends when he was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame. That August 22nd induction was a very happy moment for me to see my beloved friend so deservedly honored by the the Angels Organization and fans. Dean expressed to me the gratitude he had for the honor that was bestowed upon him that night. I know he was especially happy to share that moment with his son and friends. That special evening was the last time I saw Dean. There will never be a greater #31 than the man himself ... Dean Chance.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Blessings,
Danny Nardoni

With deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dean. My late husband, Jack McGowan, had the honor of being a friend and teammate in the Oriole's minor league (ie: 1960 Fox Cities), and Dean's name was often mentioned as he reminisced. Peace and friendship....
