David Ruby Obituary

It is with sadness that we share with you the passing of David Ruby. Born July 14, 1955. Dave passed peacefully due to heart complications this month. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nancy Ruby. He is survived by his sister Diane.
Dave was a lover of life, an extraordinary basketball player in his youth and a rabid golfer till his death. Dave's later passion in life was going to the horse track trying to turn a dollar bet into several thousand. He was an awesome storyteller and collector of friends, no matter where his life took him.
Raised in Libertyville, Illinois. He moved to California and then back. His final destination was Durango, CO in 1994.
Dave left an enduring mark on all he came in contact with after high school and college. In the late 1970s, Dave entered into the construction/drywall industry and continued with his move to Durango. Eventually starting his own business, ""Turtle Lake Construction"".
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes you not to send cards or flowers. Dave, being a ""Brother Elk"" member for many years would have been honored that you send any donations to the Elks #507 in Durango in his name!
David's ashes will be put to rest at their family plot in Ohio.

Dave would be there. He listened to me when I had something to share. He would be thoughtful and genuine in his responses for me, no matter the subject matter, personal problem or outrageous idea. He was there.
He still is ...

I have a family in the heavens clearing a path for me someday.
Love ya Dave. Give Dad and Mom a hug for me

Happy Birthday David.

This is a special year. September will be your LHS and Oak Grove School 50th reunion. I know how much you were looking forward to that. I even had a surprise Oak Grove t shirt made up for you (3 years ago) based on our conversations about where we grew up. It was to be your birthday gift. I wear it on your birthdays now

David- I heard this song. Why write my words when the lyrics say what my heart feels and wonders. I saw all three of you, sitting and laughing at our kitchen table...which got me to pull out our last family photo at Mom's 80th. Damn (-=

Here are some of the song lyrics that clearly shared the three of you. Thank you for bringing this song to me brother:

"Is there a bar up there where you've got a favorite chair? Where you sit with friends and talk about the weather?

"Is there a place you go to watch the sunset and is there a song you just can't wait to share? Yeah, I know you will tell me when I get there."

"Do you three think of me?...I know you are".

"Will you save me a place?"...

"Til I'm with you"

David three years and I ... you know.

I have a family in the heavens clearing a path for me someday. Love ya Dave - Give Dad and Mom a hug for me.

I just learned today that you are no longer with us. Your smile and humor, and love of those around you is truly missed. I'll always remember the trip to Arkansas to see Uncle Boots & Aunt Joan, your help on renovating my house in Libertyville, and the times we gathered with Rookie & Kate. Forever in our hearts!

Second year David. For some foolish reason I believed it would get easier and every year it´s just as hard ( if not harder). Damn Dave learning to live without you is hard. When I am able to give to others freely, graciously, quietly and unconditionally you, Mom and Dad are ALWAYS in my heart. It is the best part of my day- doing something for others. I feel the presence of family in my heart, it carries me through.

You always seem to know when to reach down and give me an "ear flick".
I know you are all watching over me but not having any immediate family here is hard and well ...it sucks! I'll end each remembrance with ... I have a family in the heavens clearing a path for me someday. Love ya Dave Give Dad and Mom a hug for me

My memory of Dave goes back to his high school years when he was a basketball "star" at Libertyville High School. He would always grab a few of his buddies and scrimmage his younger sister's basketball team on Saturday mornings. It made the girls' team tough. Imagine a big brother giving up Saturday mornings to benefit a bunch of girls. That was Dave! The world lost a free spirit who was generous with his time and talent. Be free.

Ahhhh, Rubes ....
We'll forever miss the artistry of your heart and of your hands. Riviera Paradise is playing, and I know that now you're wandering that beautiful shore. You good, good man.
