David Chamberlain Obituary

David Purinton Chamberlain, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, at the Hospice House in Durango, Colorado. Surrounded by his loving wife, Connie, and their children Rebecca and Ian. David's final moments were filled with comfort and shared memories, marking a serene conclusion to his life's journey.

Born in Mineola, New York, David's life was one of connection, adventure, and love. He leaves behind a legacy through his wife, Connie; his children, Rebecca Smith (husband, Kevin) and Ian Chamberlain (wife, Tamlin); four adored grandchildren; his brother, Michael Roe Chamberlain (Sarah Leuthy Chamberlain); his sister, Sarah O'Meara Chamberlain (Ed Galston); and five nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents, David R. Chamberlain and Grace P. Chamberlain, and his son, Andrew O'Meara Chamberlain, in 1996. His passion for animals was evident through his lifelong companionship with many dogs and cats, including his beloved Vinnie.

David's educational journey culminated with his graduation from South Kent School in 1962 and a B.A. in Transportation from Fort Schuyler SUNY, where he also earned his license to sail as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine. His adventurous spirit led him to meet his wife, Connie, on Andros Island in the Bahamas in the spring of 1970. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage on June 21, 1970, and together, they embarked on a life filled with joy, adventure, and unwavering love.

Known for his kind, generous, and thoughtful nature, David's presence was a source of joy and comfort to many. His storytelling prowess was unmatched, making him the life of any gathering and leaving a lasting impression on friends across the globe. David's love for his family and friends was profound, guiding his passions and pursuits. An avid sailor and sport enthusiast, he found joy in the outdoors, whether sailing a boat, skiing down slopes, or simply enjoying the beach. His adventurous spirit was not just for his own enjoyment but also a way to bring joy and excitement into the lives of his family and friends.

David Purinton Chamberlain's legacy is one of love, adventure, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2024 at Greenmount Cemetery.

I was so saddened to hear about Dave. I wish I had met him and would like to meet you and your family sometime soon. If I had known you were in Durango, I could have visited when we were in the area in 2004.
