Daniel Dermott "Danny" McManus obituary

Daniel McManus Obituary

Lifelong Durango resident Danny McManus died of natural causes Friday, April 23, 2010, at home. He was 39.

Mr. McManus was born Dec. 5, 1970, in Durango to Fran and Bobbie McManus. He attended St. Columba Elementary, Needham

Elementary, Miller Junior High and graduated from Durango High School in 1989. He was an alumnus of Fort Lewis

College.

Many people knew him from his years of working at Durango's finest restaurants: Lori's Family Dining, The Palace and,

of course, the McManus family's Subway.

Old-timers remember Mr. McManus as one of the Durango Kids who performed with his family at the Durango Inn in the

1970s. He continued his love of performing by singing for many years with the Durango Barbershoppers.

Mr. McManus loved Notre Dame football. He was an avid tennis player and was one of the biggest supporters of the local

high school and college athletic teams.

He was active with St. Columba Parish, serving on the parish council, and recently achieved his Fourth Degree in the

Knights of Columbus.

“His outgoing personality and generous spirit endeared him to our community and to his family. He was a devoted son, a

loving brother, a beloved uncle and a loyal friend to thousands," his family wrote. “In Dan's world, there were no

strangers, and everyone was welcomed."

He is survived by his parents, Fran & Bobbie McManus, of Durango; sisters Maymie McManus of Denver and Kathleen

McManus of Durango; brothers Fran McManus and Pat McManus of Durango and Mickey McManus of Golden; a grandmother,

Dorothy Becklenberg of Kentucky; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at

10 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1830 East Second Ave., with a reception to follow.
