Damian Gomez Obituary

Damian Dean Gomez, 60, unexpectedly passed away on April 10, 2022.

Damian was born on October 11, 1961, in Denver to James and Martha Gomez. He grew up in Durango along with sister, Diana and Judy as well many family & friends. He loved watching all of his favorite Colorado teams.

He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Ann Gomez and together they had 2 children, Damian A. and Dianne. Damian began his career in the US Navy as an Air Traffic Controller. He was well respected and known to be a friend and mentor to all. He loved serving his country, military life, the sea, and aviation. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need and was a devout Catholic. Damian retired as a LT. Commander after serving 28 honorable years.

Damian and Betty moved to Ft Worth, TX in the early 2000's to be closer to Dianne and family. In 2015, Damian lost his wife to cancer. In August 2020 he met and married Sonia Gonzales. He loved laughing, attending sporting events, road trips and spending time with family. Often attending his grandsons sporting events and time with his son Damian and family. A proud father and grandpa "Pappa". He was a great father and an even greater grandpa.

Damian was loved beyond measure and will be missed always. He was a great example of leadership, fairness, and generosity to all who knew him. We will miss his laughter, his stories, and the man he was to us all. We thank God for the time we had with him and will continue his legacy.

He is predeceased by his sister Diana Gomez, and wife Betty Ann Gomez.

He is survived by his parents; wife Sonia; sister Judy (Zane) Vagneur; son Damian (Ana) and grandsons Sebastian & Nico; daughter Dianne (Roman) Becerra and grandson, Angel and granddaughter, Mariah; stepdaughter Michelle (Michael) Mitchel and their son Gabriel; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Services will held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30am and Mass following at 10am, with interment at Greenmount Cemetery after Mass.

I just learned of Damien's passing today, May 30th 2023. I have memories of Damien from Navy A school that exactly match the description of him above. I recall that he was intelligent and kind to everyone. It saddens me that a life so well lived would be cut short. Rest well shipmate, I'll see you on the next shore.
