D.C. Everest Obituary

Former Durango resident D.C. "Clark" Everest Jr. of Schofield, Wis., died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in Weston, Wis. He was 91.

Mr. Clark was born to D.C. and Rita G. (Gouin) Everest Sr. on July 18, 1921, in Wausau, Wis.

He married the Kathryn Krause, also from Wausau, on June 23, 1971.

"They were married for 40 wonderful years and did everything together," his family said. This included traveling the world for fly-fishing.

Mr. Clark married twice more.

Mr. Clark lived in Durango in the early 1970s. He was an avid outdoorsman, and his top passions were both freshwater and saltwater fly-fishing. He was a certified instructor by the Federation of Fly Fishers and his saltwater fishing included tarpon, snook and redfish. He also enjoyed duck and goose hunting, skiing and ski-jumping.

In addition, Mr. Clark was a National Association of Underwater Instructors-certified instructor. He also taught and enjoyed aerobatic flying and played semiprofessional football for the Merrill (Wis.) Foxes.

Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Clark, second wife, Elaine Nelson Clark, and his third wife, Kathryn Krause Clark; daughter Pamela Hutton; and his sisters, Ruth Weaver and Helen Kimball.

He is survived by daughters Jan Everest and Patricia "Patti" Clark Kjelstad; sons David Clark Everest III of Chandler, Ariz., and John Everest of Farmington, N.M.; stepson Phillip Uekert of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private family service is pending.
