Cornia Washington Obituary

On Sunday January 26, 2025, God picked a beautiful rose from his garden. Our beloved mother, Cornia Seay Washington. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She was born June 4, 1932 to the parents of Mr. Clarance and Mrs. Maria Seay of Lunenburg County, Virginia, where she grew up and was educated in the Lunenburg public schools system and further her education in the Central State Nursing Aide Program. For many years she worked as an Dietary Assistance at Southside Virginia Training Center/Central State Hospital.

At an early age, Cornia confessed her life to Christ and join the Starlight Baptist Church in Kenbridge, Virginia. Later she became a member of Mt. Poole Baptist Church in Ford, Virginia under christian experience. Cornia was a God fearing woman who loved singing, church going, reading the word, but most of all she love spending time with her family and friends.

Cornia was married to her beloved husband Early Melvin Washington, Sr. for over 68 years a love that was so strong, before he preceded her in death April 17, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her devoted daughter, Cornia Elizabeth Washington February 17, 2019, then her son Early Melvin Washington, Jr. October 29, 2022.

Survivng is her brother Clifton Seay of Woodbridge, Virginia, a devoted daughter-in-law Mrs. Alice Shell Washington of Ford, Virginia; a devoted son Richard C. Washington of Chesterfield, Virginia; two devoted daughters Ms. Cassie Tucker (Harold) of Stony Creek, Virginia, Mary W. Pegram (Charles) of South Chesterfield, Virginia. Cornia is also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Mr. Judge Seay, Russell Seay, Mr. Richard Seay, Ms. Helen Jackson, Ms. Hattie Shelton, Ms. Mary Evans, Ms. Maria Holmes, Ms. Rosa Wynn. Cornia has a host of beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Cornia was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and love her! 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Poole Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor, Rev. Dr. James R. Kelly, officiating, and the Rev. Carlos Jordan, eulogizing. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.
