Coby Wiegert Obituary

December 15, 1965 - September 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Coby Dean Wiegert announce his passing on September 4, 2024, while mountain biking with friends.

Coby was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on December 15, 1965 to Jerry and Shirley Wiegert. He was the youngest of 5 children. In 1979 the family moved to Durango Colorado. Coby excelled in athletics and graduated from Durango High School. He attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, where he earned his BA in Exercise Science and played varsity football for the Raiders. Upon graduation he worked for the City of Durango in the Parks and Recreation Program. Coby joined the Wells Group in 2005 and enjoyed a successful career as a realtor until his passing.

Coby married Jill Jennings in 1989 and they had three, beautiful children; triplets named Elizabeth Haley, Cameron Dean, and Kaitlin Jordan. He was a devoted and loving father who took great pride in his children and enjoyed coaching and mentoring them in their athletic endeavors. He was a great parent who nurtured and supported his children's passions in life. Coby was thrilled to be a Grandad with his 5 grandchildren Bo, Luke, Bellamy, Rollins and Jensen. One key gift of wisdom he shared with his children was to live and love fully every single day.

Coby was an active, adventurous man who loved riding single track on his mountain bike, playing pickleball and golf, and spending time with his beloved family, life partner and friends. He was fun, intelligent, genuine, kind and compassionate. Coby had a unique way of bringing people together. He touched so many lives in such a positive way, he will be sorely missed.

Coby is preceded in death by his mother and father, Shirley and Jerry Wiegert. He is survived by his life partner, Tracy Johnson; triplet children's mother, Jill Coons (Bob); his children Elizabeth Urquhart (Kevin), Cameron Wiegert (Aubree), and Kaitlin Bay (DJ); his sisters Gail Wiegert, Colleen Wiegert, and Chris Gatz; Brother Jerry Wiegert (Doreena); 5 grandchildren; his 2 dogs and many, many friends.

Coby's Celebration of Life is September 22, 2024 at 2pm, in the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to Southwest Colorado Cycling Association (SWCCA) or to his children's GoFundMe account in support of unexpected expenses and a future memorial bench for Coby. https://gofund.me/9781c871.

Copy was such a sweet caring man. Played against him in basketball. He was a very fair ref in all the games with no favoritism. We ran into Coby at Steamworks before leaving Durango. Coby and Tracy were the perfect happy couple; we always enjoyed seeing them walk their dogs, Nala and Annabelle around the neighborhood. They shared so many mutual interests, including mountain biking. Coby´s big heart now shines through Tracy. He will be sorely missed.

I echo the sentiments of the first post here, shock and sadness to hear Coby has passed. As a coworker first of Coby's at the City, and Jill at FLC, I remember their good humor about having triplets, and what a proud dad he was. I hope treasured memories will help fill the space where this very kind and funny person impacted lives . My heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends.
