Clarence Gohn Obituary

Clarence (Bud) Gohn was 80 years young. Born to Clarence Gohn I and Regina Bennum in Hays, Kansas, on February 15, 1945, Bud came to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College in 1966, when he was discharged from the US Navy.

Here he met Rosie Gurule at the old A&W Root Beer (now Griegos) and they married on March 27, 1967. They have one son Sonny Gohn. Bud worked in many, mostly construction, jobs. Eventually going to work at LPEA from where he retired as a Systems Operator after 25 years.

Bud loved people and he was the best son-in-law, brother-in-law, and all around in-law anyone could ask for. He was there for every one of the Gurule family.

Bud was very handy and could do any job that needed to be done. He was a very young 80 year old designing and building a "She Shed" just 2 years ago at the age of 78.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and President of the South Sanitation District Board of Directors.

He loved dancing, and playing poker and slots at any casino.

Bud was proud of what he accomplished in he and Rosie's 58 years of marriage, but he still had so many dreams left to accomplish. If you saw Bud you saw Rosie as there were always together.

Bud passed peacefully and comfortably at Durango's Hospice House where he had the best care we could have asked for. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care he received throughout his illness from the entire Mercy staff and especially from Dr. Jack McMannis and his lovely wife Anand.

We thank so many people for the prayers and support that they showed us during his short illness.

Bud is survived by his wife Rosie, his son Sonny, his grandchildren Hanna, Zachary, and Adam of Sacremento, CA, His brothers John of Phoenix AZ, Dan in Durango, brother-in-law, Carl Beal. His favorite sister-in-law Tina Beal, his brother-in-law Jack Gurule, sister-in-law Cani Gurule and many nieces and nephews. He was "Uncle Buddy" to all his nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. The rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. and the Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m.; burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to the Mercy Hospice House.

As I made that call, another beloved person who had passed, to each of my children and exes and currents, I realized that every one had something wonderful to say about Bud and Rosie and Sonny too. Those who also know Tina and her sweetie had laughter and tales of memories filled with love and smiles. My heart was filled with the joy of his ever-present smile and Rosie's sweet laugh instead of tears. Thank you all for the grace you brought and bring inyo my world.

I've known Bud and Rosie, most of my life, and know him to be one of the easiest people to get to know that I've ever met, and friendliest, gentile people you could be blessed to know. One of my favorite memories of him, is how special he treated his sainted mother-in-law. I don't think I ever saw him, that he didn't have a smile on his face. He and Rosie have always been two of the most wonderful friends I've known.
My heart aches for Rosie, and the many people that have been graced and blessed to know them.
The world just lost one of God's best creations.
Rest in peace, my friend.
Rosie, you are in my heart and in my prayers. I love you.
