Charles Sullivan Obituary

Our beloved Charles Nicholas Sullivan left his beautiful, creative life on December 17, 2015. Charlie was born in Durango, Colorado, on March 16, 2005, to Craig and Danielle Sullivan. He lived his entire life in the area, first in Pagosa Springs, then in Breen, and most recently, in Durango. He was in the fifth grade at St. Columba School.

With his inquisitive nature, Charlie brought joy to all who knew him. He loved to tell jokes to anyone who would listen, play Legos and video games, ride his bike with his mom, and tease his brother. He was an avid reader with almost encyclopedic knowledge about animals, particularly sea creatures. He loved having pets, and throughout his life tended to dogs, cats, goats, chickens, a lizard, hamsters, a rabbit, and numerous fish and amphibians. His friends and schoolmates talk of his creativity and wild imagination, his messy locker, how thoughtful and caring he was, and his nickname "Churro Charlie."

Charlie traveled many places in the U.S. and world and especially treasured visits to the sea where he could visit "his friends, the fish." He enjoyed exploring and having adventures at his grandparents' property in Montana and participated in various clubs and activities. He was most recently involved in aikido, Lego League, and playing the trumpet at school.

He is survived by his mother, Danielle Sullivan, who absolutely adored her "Char-Bar;" his older brother, Ethan, who was patient beyond belief with Charlie's teasing and antics; his grandparents Pam Olson, Robert Ralphs, and Keith Sullivan; several aunts, uncles, and cousins in Montana and Wisconsin; and a loving circle of friends who are like family and played important roles in raising him.

A celebration of his life will be held at the PowerHouse Science Museum on February 6 at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to wear their favorite animal shirt to honor Charlie's love of animals. A Charlie Sullivan Memorial Scholarship has been established at Saint Columba School. Donations can be made at Pine River Valley Bank or at Saint Columba School.

Special thanks to Dr. Brenda Huffman for her outstanding care of Charlie throughout his life and to Hood Mortuary and PowerHouse Science Museum for their generosity during this difficult time.

We wish for sting ray dreams for our dear little buddy and are blessed to have shared in his exuberant life.

Charlie,
You where so filled with grace and wonderful humor. For the past ten years I have tried to follow your example. I often fail to show as much kindness and patience as you did but your memory is always there to encourage me to continue to try. I hope you really are having fantastic stingray dreams and can feel all our love.

Hey, this week is your birthday. You´re turning 20, big number. So much has happened, I have a son now. He´s my light in this dark world. You would´ve liked him, he laughs at the same jokes, likes the same songs, likes when I read him the books you read. I guess I don´t really know what to say. I can´t describe how much it still hurts. They say time heals all wounds, but they´re wrong. Time is just a constant reminder of losing you. I wish I could see you again, even if it´s just a minute. I miss you so much, me and Logan haven´t been the same since we lost you. I hope I see you soon. I love you.

Hey buddy, I just wanna say that I miss you. I live by the ocean now and I think of you everyone I see a stingray or a jellyfish. It´s crazy to think that in 2 days it´ll have been 9 years. We haven´t forgotten about you. I still listen to Let it Be when I think of you. You were the hardest thing me and Logan lost that year. We love you. I hope heaven is treating you well. Stingray dreams, buddy.

I wish he was here for me to say happy birthday but at least I know that he knows that I love him and that I miss him.
i will never forget him, he deserves everything.
I hope that he is dreaming of stingrays and is at home. I know that he is in heaven. I hope that heaven is a real paradise for him. it's hard to think that he would be 16 now. I cant believe that it has been six years. I just hope that he knew that he was one of the best people I ever knew.
But I guess he'll never know it.

My son CJ (cobra) and Charlie (larval) were camp bunkers together and became best camp buddies. CJ is devastated to hear the news. To say we are sorry seems so understated.

Thank you for bringing joy to my CJ's life Charlie. You will be missed.

Dear Ethan and Danielle,
Just want to send my condolences on your recent losses. It's been a while since I've seen you, and my memory fades, but I think I remember meeting your family on some occasion at Escalante when Ethan was in 6th grademaybe after a conference or an afterschool bike ride? From reading the obituaries, I'm touched by how you all appreciated and celebrated the lives of your loved ones. It seems like that is the best way to move on from such losses. I wish you well. Sincerely, Oscar Trono

Dear Danielle & Ethan, Our hearts are broken over the loss of Charlie. He was such a wonderful friend to Margaret and so very kind to her obnoxious little brother who pestered him constantly to play tag. My daughter is going to miss his artistic spark in music class and his sweet approachable manner. What a great kid! We loved him so much. Sarah Feit & Margaret and Ben Williams
