Charles Egan Obituary

Mike was born in Glen Ridge NJ. The family moved several times before settling in St. Louis MO, where he earned the highest boy scout achievement award of Eagle Scout and went on to graduate from Parkway Central High School in 1972.

He worked at Burkhart Randall Foam Mfg before moving to Arizona, where he worked in Telecommunications and for Western Wear Outfitters. From there he moved to Silverton CO and worked at the US Post Office in Ouray CO and Western Wear Outfitters. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Silverton Fire Department and part of the Avalanche Rescue Team. From there he moved to Durango CO where he worked at the US Post Office.

Mike was a "Mountain Man" as we would call him. He had so much love for the mountains, exploring the coal and silver mines, hiking, skiing and photography. He recruited many of us to play in the annual Mountain Man Golf Tournament in Silverton CO benefiting the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department. Mike never met a stranger and had many friends.

Mike is predeceased by his parents Peter Egan Jr. and Betty(nee Berry), his brother Peter. Mike is survived by his sister Judy Kohrs, (husband Wayne), nephew Joshua Underriter (wife Jen), niece Christina Pena(husband Brandon), nephew Michael Kohrs(wife Tonya), niece Kadyi Kohrs. 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew.

Stepmother Joyce Egan, stepsister Rita Conger (husband Alan), niece Nicole Krewet, 2 great nephews.

Mike and I worked together for a few years in the early days of Greene Street Grocery in Silverton, CO. I still picture him in his Texaco Shirt and Texaco ball cap behind the counter of that store. We went together to many week-end grocery industry golf tournaments in Denver. On those trips, we had so much fun, won prizes and those tournaments gave Mike the idea of starting the "Mountain Man Golf Tournament". Those Mountain Man Golf Tournaments were events that many in the area cherished. The Grocery Store Softball team was also something Mike organized... he was the captain of the team. As I recall, they were pretty good. Mike loved being involved with the Silverton Fire Department. He would put his fireman's boot on the check out counter of the Grocery Store to gather donations for the Silverton Fire Department's Fireworks Display. That boot would always fill up with cash! Mike always wanted to work in the Postal Service. He eventually was able to do that, but that left Greene Street Grocery without his smile.

Yes, Mike was a friend for everyone.

It was a pleasure knowing Mike.

I had the pleasure of playing in several of Mike's golf tournaments, and he played in mine. He was a fun loving and likeable guy, gregarious, friendly, and funny. All of his friends will miss him.
