Carl Hanson Obituary

Carl Hanson, Jr went to be with the Lord March 18, 2023. He was born to Ora and Carl Hanson, Sr in Oklahoma and joined by a brother 5 years later. The family moved to California when Carl was 9 years old. At age 16 he graduated from high school and went on to Compton Jr College then USC where he earned an engineering degree.

Carl was in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 when he earned an honorary discharge. He married Corol Briggs on the Bride and Groom radio show July 10, 1947. (Just as an interesting tidbit, the date they originally had set was taken by Dick VanDyke and his wife!) Corol and Carl had 3 daughters, Lucy, Cindy and cherie. They moved to Ft Huachuca, AZ in 1958 then on to Durango, Colorado in 1960, where they went into a partnership with Corol's brother. The partnership dissolved and Corol saw an ad for a math teacher at Miller Jr High. With his background in engineering, Carl was hired on the spot! He taught there for 21 years, while farming a 77 acre farm in the spring, summer and fall. Corol and Carl moved to Bayfield where they did a tree farm to save on taxes. One year Carl cut down, sized and split 23 cords of wood!!!!! He always was a go-getter!!!

Carl was a strong Christian all his life. He always felt led by God. Carl filled in for pastors by giving sermons and he led Sunday School classes and Bible Studies. He and Corol were also involved with Vacation Bible School. Corol died in in 2008 and his middle daughter, Cindy died in 2022. Carl and cherie moved to Arizona to be with sister Lucy 5 years ago. He is survived by daughters Lucy and cherie, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

As 2 memorials were done in Arizona, no service is planned locally.
