Carl Bushey Obituary

Born September 26, 1938 in Uravan, Colorado (Block C) to Kenneth and Lettie (Best) Bushey. Carl spent his childhood in Uravan, which was a Union Carbide-owned mill town for Uranium and Vanadium processing. Carl was one of the first babies born in the small community of Uravan.

Carl graduated from Nucla High School in 1956 and joined the Army that fall. He was stationed in Korea near the DMZ and then at Fort Meade, Maryland. He was honorably discharged in 1958. After the Army, Carl returned to Uravan and worked in the mill. In August 1961 he married Barbara Barnes. Shortly thereafter, Carl began a career with the Colorado State Patrol. As a devoted family man and desiring more time with his family, he changed careers and entered the natural gas gathering industry in the Durango area. Carl worked up until his retirement in 1995, ending his career as a field operations supervisor. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, time with his family, and hosted many back-yard barbeques and get-togethers. He was a great ping pong player and loved pitching horseshoes. During retirement, he became active in the Colorado Mounted Rangers, where he was able to serve his community. In 2002, he was recognized as Troop D Ranger of the Year. Eventually, Carl and Barbara started dividing their time in warmer climates during the winter. First in the Texas hill country, then in Arizona with their summers in Colorado. After doing this for 17 years, they moved from their Bayfield home and settled in Firestone, Colorado.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Earl. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, his four children: Eugene (Theresa), Phoenix AZ ; Kimberlie (Mark) Herron, Cheyenne WY ; Kent (Erin), Cambridge WI ; Brian (Heather), Thornton CO, along with 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Carl was known for his strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a humble man and a man of integrity.

A memorial service will be held on September 26, 2022 at 11:00AM, at Carroll-Lewellen Mortuary in Longmont, Colorado.
