Brian Salazar Obituary

Durango resident Brian Michael Salazar died at his home on Thursday, June 11, 2009. He was 38.

Mr. Salazar was born to Juan and Carrie Salazar in Salt Lake City on April 6, 1971.

He attended Durango High School.

He was a salesman at Northpoint Furniture.

"Music was his heart," his family wrote.

They said Mr. Salazar was a well-known musician in the community and played in various bands, including Los Pavoreales, Los Gauchos, Grupo Sensación, Grupo Genesis and his latest band, La Sociedad.

"Brian was a very loveable, giving person," his family wrote. "If you needed his last dollar, it was yours. He was compassionate and loved by everyone. He has left a very big void in our lives."

Mr. Salazar is survived by his wife of 21 years, Selena Salazar, of Durango; daughters Lesha Salazar, Quiana Salazar and Shania Salazar; son, Vicente Salazar; parents, Juan and Carrie Salazar, of Salt Lake City; brothers Johnny Salazar and Lester Salazar, both of Salt Lake City; sister, Tammie Salazar, of Salt Lake City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 18, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial to take place afterward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brian Salazar Memorial Fund, Bank of the San Juans, 144 E. Eighth St., Durango, CO 81301.
