Brian Dannemann Obituary

Brian Rivarde Dannemann of Durango, CO died in his sleep on July 27, 2018 at age 63.
An avid mountaineer, skier, climber, and triathlete, he embodied the spirit of adventure through a lifelong admiration of the natural world. A devoted father and husband, he inspired his family to work hard, pursue their goals, and love the great outdoors.
Born in Denver, raised in Wheatridge, and educated at the University of Colorado; Brian's career took him across the Western US from a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah to an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Stanford University and a fellowship in Molecular Virology at Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, Montana. He practiced Infectious Diseases in Provo, Utah before relocating his family to Flemington, New Jersey to work in pharmaceutical research and development. Brian made significant contributions to new investigational drugs, most recent as Senior Director for Sirturo, a treatment for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, at Janssen Global Public Health. Brian and his wife Holly returned west in 2016 to reside in Durango.
With the same determination and focus exhibited in his professional life, Brian completed 3 National Outdoor Leadership School courses, several first climbing ascents in the Wasatch Range and multiple sprint distance triathlons. Brian's deep commitment to personal relationships led to friendships that spanned decades. He will be remembered for his soft-spoken humor, famous seafood gumbo and unique sense of style.
Brian is predeceased by his father Herbert Randell Dannemann and his mother Althea Rivarde Dannemann. He is survived by his wife Holly Hatch, his daughter Fransiska and her fiance Brannon Dugick, his son Peter, and his brother Randell.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Outdoor Leadership School scholarship fund. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time.
