I remember when Bobby used to come to my family’s home when he was driving my father’s (Bud Trainor) race car. He was a young man and could not afford a hotel so he would stay with us and my father would cut his hair. He was one of my father’s dearest friends. My father passed in 2001 but my sister,Lee Ann and I, Sheila, would like to send deepest sympathy’s to the Uncer Family from the Trainor Family.

My first Indy 500 was in 1968, Bobby's first win. Was their in '72 when he set the pole record. Saw his other two Indy wins in '75 and '81. Bobby helped make the Indianapolis 500 "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", Rest In Peace.

To the Unser family I'm so very sorry for your loss. I lived down the street from Bobby and Al when I was little. Al jr. was a friend of mine. I remember going to Uncle Bobby's across the street to visit. Then the family moved. In fact I learned how to tell time being at the Unsers home because my mom would tell me what time I had to be home. I've often thought about those childhood days and wished I could have kept in contact with the Unsers. I will never forget those times. Once again I'm so sorry for your loss. He was amazing.

I was born and raised in Speedway, Indiana but knew Bobby in Denver. Was at Indy in ‘75 “singing in the rain” and again in ‘81. Enjoyed a trip down Piles Peak with him in the pace car after one of the Hill Climbs! What a ride. I felt shock and sadness at his passing, but also a flood of unforgettable memories! My condolences to the Unser family and the entire racing community. We have truly lost one of a kind.

To Lisa Bobby JR Cindi Robby and Jeri

On behalf of the Schelble family in Milwaukee we are all so sorry for your loss. Bobby was an inspiration to me to never back down from any challenge or any one. We were all some of his biggest fans and enjoyed our brat cookouts during the Milwaukee races each year and some fun rides around town in our 63 Lincoln with Bobby at the wheel. I learned more about the value of hard work visiting Bobby for a week in 1986 than I did in all 20 years prior. Thanks for all the life lessons. We will all miss you dearly. The whole Bobby Unser family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Michael Schelble

Bobby and my uncle were close friends and I was fortunate enough over the years to have met Bobby several times. He was a great man that was never shy about telling you how it was and was always willing to help out up and coming drivers. I miss seeing him on the track and in the broadcast booth. It was funny watching him educate Sam Posey. Rest in Peace Uncle Bobby!!

You and your family have always been heros to me since I was old enough to appreciate motor racing (born in 1963).
I can never thank you and Al Sr. enough for autographing shirts for my young son and then sending them to Texas.
You are an inspiration to my 13 year old son as he embarks on this, his rookie season in professional motorsports.
I know you're now in heaven and sitting next to the throne of our Lord and Savior and enjoying your Heavenly reward as promised by Him.
Rest easy racer and thank you for the great memories.

I met you many years ago at Phoenix International Raceway. I nervously told you what a hero you had been to me growing up in Albuquerque and how the family listened to the races on the radio especially the Indy 500 hoping you would do well. You will always be my hero. The world will miss you very much. I hope you are racing along enjoying everything in heaven.

One of my top ten "All-Time Favorites" for decades. Saw him qualify in his first year at Indy (1963) when I was 13 years old. Saw him in action at Indy Speedway for many years afterwards. Bobby's 1975 Gurney All-American Eagle has been one of my top five all-time favorites in Indy racing. (Even now (5-4-2021) as I write this, it's raining heavy ... just like it did on Bobby's second win at I.M.S. in the "500" that day, 1975...such a memorable event.
God be with the great Unser family during this time of the passing of "Uncle Bobby" ( as IndyCar sports writer, Robin Miller says)

To the Unser family,
Sending sincere sympathy at this difficult time. Watched faithfully Bobby's career at the Indy 500 with my Dad for years. Such a fine man,
and race competitor. We at our home always cheered him on for years.
He will not only be celebrated in Indiana, home of the 500 but around
the world. RIP, Bobby. Never to be forgotten.

I think what I’ll remember most of Bobby, not was he a racing legend, but a regular guy. Some years ago I had an opportunity to drive Bobby from Detroit to the airport in Windsor, On for a flight to Toronto, while he waited I had a coffee and danish , we talked about his cats , his & Lisa’s planes and just life in general. I will never forget that time. R.I.P Bobby till we meet again.

Bobby raced in our grandfathers H & H Machine Tool Special and won twin features at Winchester in the mid 60's. Grandpa got one rifle and Bobby got the other. He was such an awesome racer, and such a gentleman. Your family is in our prayers.
