I did many things with Bobby as a former Deputy Sheriff I was his bodyguard (Like he needed one)
and I booked some signings for him. One signing I got for him he was there all night. I was going to drive him home and we got into my car I backed out of the spot and poor Bobby was sound asleep. I drove him all the way home pulled into the parking space tapped him on his shoulder to wake him up. I said “Bobby you’re home!” He looked at me and said “It was a beautiful ride”.
I still laugh about that.

Bobby Hull was hockey. In his best years he was the league. Everyone wanted to watch him play. Unstoppable because of his skating ability , speed and power and balance. Watching him lean into a puck was the greatest spectacle in sports. No player comes close to his ability and electrifying play! We all miss him terribly.

Dan and I brought Bobby a gift after a game at Chicago Stadium parking lot in 1971. His wide smile told us he knew what was inside the package: a six-pack! It was particularly funny to Bobby getting a gift of suds from two 17 year olds!

Bobby has always been my favorite hockey hero. When I was kid I played hockey at the Elmhurst Y and I remember standing next to Bobby who was watching his son and I was hoping, if I stood close enough maybe some of the great skill would rub off on me, he acted just like any other dad watching his kid. Later in life I attended an autograph signing at a local liquor store and I arrived early and it was just me and Bobby, I brought a photo of the 1965 Blackhawks for his signature and he proceeded to tell me a story of almost every player in that photo. Later again I met Bobby at his book signing and again here come the stories of the train ride up to Montreal with the team. Bobby was an authentic person and he valued his fans to bring them into his hockey world and he always had an added story of his sons who he said were better that he.

When i was a young boy in grammar school Bobby had time for me. When I was in my teens and twenties Bobby had time for me. Most recently when I was in my late 60 sixties and early seventies Bobby had time for me. The kindest, warmest athlete I ever met, the greatest Blackhawk to ever play. He was my idol and I loved him and still do. God is taking care of him. I will miss him. God bless and comfort his family.

I was a 10-year-old boy growing up in Chicago when Bobby made his NHL debut in 1957 and was lucky enough to see his entire career in Chicago....hundreds of games on WGN and a hundred or so more in person, mostly from 2nd balcony standing room. No athlete in history could generate the kind of excitement that Bobby Hull did on a nightly basis. Some of my fondest memories are of my friends and I (and 22,000 other fans) celebrating a rink-long dash, culminated with a blazing sIap shot, the red light flashing and the Stadium going crazy. I met him several times, as a youngster and much later as an adult. Always gracious, always generous with his time, always smiling.
One of my prized photographs, enlarged and hanging on my den wall, is of Bobby posing with my youngest son (who was wearing his Hawks jersey) at Seven Bridges Rink at a youth hockey tournament in Woodridge 25 years ago. When I show that picture to people, I tell them "the guy on the right was my hero when I was 10, the kid on the left is my hero today>"
I could never thank him enough for the excitement and thrills he brought hockey fans throughout the world, but especially in Chicago. To his family and friends, my deepest sympathy on the passing of a true hockey superstar. Rest in Peace, #9.

BOBBY WAS MY HERO AS A KID GROWING UP IN WHEATON ILLINOIS. I REMEMBER STANDING IN LINE AT THE WHEATON SPORTS SHOP TO GET HIS AUTOGRAPH AS A 10 YEAR OLD. I STILL HAVE IT.
HE CAME TO BOUNTIFUL UTAH TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AT A YOUTH HOCKEY TOURNEMENT.
I GOT HIM TO SIGN STICKS AND PICTURES FOR MY BIG BROTHERS. THEY WILL BE FOREVER KEEPSAKES.
IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT BOBBY LOVED AND APPRECIATED HIS FANS.
I HOPE THAT THERE'S ICE IN HEAVEN. I WILL HAVE MY SKATES AND HOPE TO PLAY A LITTLE SHINNY WITH YOU BOBBY!

Nobody treated the fans better than the Golden Jet, Robert Marvin Hull. Today's athletes should take a page from the way that Bobby managed to always have the time, a smile and an autograph for the fans that helped support him for so many years that he played for the Blackhawks in Chicago. There will never be another athlete that will likely spend as much time around the public and his fans as Bobby did and anyone no matter what age that was able to meet and talk with him can attest to that. His fans will truly miss "The Golden Jet".

No sports superstar since Babe Ruth was as generous with his fans as was Bobby. I saw him stand in sleet in the Chicago Stadium parking lot signing autographs on the hood of cars for fans willing to withstand the weather, for the thrill of a lifetime.
Bobby was really late to Game 5 of the Finals in 1971, and hurriedly said hello to a congregate of fans as he rushed to Gate 3.5. Bobby saw my friend Dan and me, said hello, then rushed off. Somehow, he stopped, turned to us, and asked if we were "In." We kinda shrugged, and he said to us, "Follow me, boys!" We hustled next to him through police officers, Andy Frain ushers, and everybody else. Once inside, he asked us if we were okay, and we shooed him toward the locker room... that thrill has lived with the two of us every day of our lives since.
We showed up at his house one Sunday and saw his sons Bobby Jr. and Brett (7 years old) in the driveway. Brett acknowledged that his father was home, and even took us up to the door. He innocently pounded on the screen door, then moseyed back to the driveway, while we stood at the vibrating door hoping Bobby didn´t twist our heads off for the rude knocking! He didn´t. He knew us - Rick and Dan from Highland Park - and invited us inside. Sitting at the kitchen table were his father and his brother, Dennis. They all welcomed us and we laughed for 20 minutes, before leaving. Again, the Hulls gave us a lifelong memory to be topped by no other.
That day, we discovered that Dennis was as wonderful a person as Bobby, and that Mr. Hull was just as Bobby had described: a loving guy who certainly wouldn´t dream of bragging about his NHL star sons. Their father, regarding slapshots, said to us: "Ah, these guys (Bobby and Dennis) are nothing. I have a son at home, Gary, who knocks the boards down with his shot!"
For all that he did for people across the U.S. and Canada, Bobby has long earned a front row seat in heaven. I hope he can save a section for some of us still to come.

As a youngster, I lived for any night that the Hawks were playing, especially those home games heard only on the radio and after the first period had ended. Lloyd Pettit's voice as he would describe a legendary end-to-end rush by #9 would fill me with excitement. Mr. Hull was the real deal, a true superstar who belongs in the pantheon of the greatest athletes in Chicago sports history, no matter what some may say. It broke my heart when he left for Winnipeg, and it took many years for me to get over his departure. Memories of the Golden Jet will live with me for the rest of my days. I was so lucky to have witnessed this man work his craft at the peak of his ability. RIP, Mr. Hull. God Bless his family and friends.

My thanks to Bobby and his family. It's one thing to make it to the professional level of any sport but it takes very hard work to stay around as long as "The Golden Jet" did! I saw him play his final season in Montreal and he was still a productive player and goalies around the NHL's worst nightmare. He was always worth the price of admission and he always went out of his way to be accessible and nice to the public. And lastly todays pro athletes could take a cue from #9,he had some of the best handwriting(along with Gordie Howe)that I ever saw. I've got two framed and personalized autographed pictures of Bobby hanging on the walls in my home. Rest in peace Mr. Hull, you will always be the starting left winger on my all-time greatest hockey team!

Bobby and Stan Mikita were my childhood sports heroes. I remember many exciting games at the Chicago Stadium...2nd Balcony standing room only. About 25 years ago I was waiting for my car at a Chicago parking garage and who was sitting in the lobby? Bobby and Stan. I was too shy (grown adult) to talk to them. I regret that. I met Bobby Hull when he was making an appearance as a sports celebrating guest a golf tournament fund raising event in Wheeling, Illinois. He was seated on a bench at the 10th tee and entertaining golfers with stories about his glory years with the Chicago Blackhawks. He could not have been nicer. He talked about the challenges of playing in the "Original Six" National Hockey League when all of the opposing teams knew everybody else. When asked about modern hockey, he quipped that he wished that Zamboni machines were in use when he began to play as some of his slap shots wound up being slowed by ice shavings and slush. Hull told us that his best hockey memory was that he was most proud of the success that his son Brett Hull had in the NHL.

We were neighbors in Addison, Illinois in 1971. His home was built by Tony Lilli and Atillio Debatista and called the house of lights. I coached youth hockey at the Elmhurst Y and Bobby Jr. skated with our son Mike. Bobby St. showed up for a practice and put on quite a show of puck shooting. Later we moved to Wisconsin and built the Kenosha Ice Arena and Bobby came out to the ground breaking ceremony with Chico Macki. The ice rink is still open and we have that picture with my sons and friend Jim Hogan.
Bobby was good friends with Henry Fleck Sr. and
D also investor in cattle with Bobby. Lots of good memories with Bobby and our friend Sheriffs Officer Ray DeVries. Bobby was two years older than me and his children are the same ages as our first four.

My condolences to Bobby´s family , friends like me and his multitude of fans. For
My money he was the best ever, some would argue for his pal Gordy, but for me, the strength, power, shot and speed belonged to the Golden Jet. Our paths intertwined back to the days in the `60s when he was the spokesman for Holloway candy in Chicago. He was pals with their President Johm Hoermann for whom my Grandma Mayne LoBello was Executive Secretary. She would see him when the two men would go out to lunch and always report back to me. Decades later I was able to reunite the two men and I understand they had quite a chat reminiscing. I began a friendship with Bobby and he came to several of my firms corporate and in-house events. We last had a small dinner at Erie Street with my three sons and a buddy. He was so entertaining and great with the young people. He will be missed. One of a kind.

My brother Mike and I grew up in Chicago in the 1960s and were big fans of the Blackhawks and Bobby Hull. Years later, Mike was playing frisbee at his in-laws in Minnesota and tried to catch the frisbee. Unfortunately, he tripped and fell in to a brick barbeque and smashed his mouth losing some teeth. When Mike told me about his injury, I thought of Bobby Hull. To cheer up Mike, I called the Winnipeg Jets Office and told the Jets representative that my brother and I were big fans of Bobby Hull. Weeks later, my brother called me to tell me that he received an autographed photo from Bobby Hull. The photo read "Dear Mike Next time try hockey. It's safer. Best Wishes Bobby Hull". I always tell family and friends about the story. Always remember Bobby Hull's kindness. Always remember the Golden Jet!
Sincerely,

Many years ago my brother Mike was playing catch with a frisbee. Unfortunately, as he ran after the frisbee, he fell hitting his mouth on a brick barbeque. He lost some teeth.
Growing up in Chicago in the 1960s, Mike and I were big fans of the Blackhawks and Bobby Hull. When I heard about my brother Mike's condition, I thought of Bobby Hull. At that time Bobby Hull was with the Winnipeg Jets. I called the Jets Office to let them know about my brother and how we were big fans of Bobby Hull. Sometime later my brother called me and told me that he received an autographed photo from Bobby Hull. The photo read, " Hi Mike Next time try hockey. It's safer".
