Betty Weinland Obituary

Betty M. Weinland

Former Durango resident Betty M. Weinland died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center in Mattoon, Ill. She was 79.

Mrs. Weinland was born to William and Dora Fudge McCain on Feb. 7, 1931, in Jackson, Miss.

She married L. Graden Weinland in Durango on March 4, 1951.

She attended Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., and Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Mrs. Weinland was one of the first female real estate agents in Colorado.

She taught piano lessons for more than 30 years and spent more than 25 years as a church organist and choir director.

She moved to Tuscola, Ill., in 2004 to be near her family.

Mrs. Weinland was a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church, Tuscola Women's club, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Delta Gamma Sorority.

She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and working crossword puzzles.

Her family remembers her as a devoted wife and mother.

Mrs. Weinland was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, L. Graden Weinland, and her son, Bill Weinland.

She is survived by her son, Lee Weinland, III of Los Alamos, N.M.; daughter Jeannie Craddock of Tuscola, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, Ill.

The Rev. Patty Johansen will officiate.

A time of sharing will be held one hour before the services at the church. Inurnment will be in church columbarium.

Memorial contributions may be made to the music department of the Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, Ill.
