Betty Harris Obituary

Betty Mary Harris, the mother of Kline resident Ron Harris, died at her La Plata, N.M., home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. She was 68.

Mrs. Harris was born to James Wilford and Josie Bertha (James) Ashcroft in Black Rock, N.M., on March 1, 1941.

She graduated from high school in Fort Defiance, Ariz.

On March 29, 1958, she married David D. Harris in Gallup, N.M.

Mrs. Harris enjoyed rock hunting, playing with her grandchildren, fishing and riding four-wheelers.

Her family said she was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions, including primary president, primary teacher and president of the Relief Society.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband of 51 years, David D. Harris, of La Plata; sons David Harris of Farmington and Ron Harris of Kline; daughters Debbie Brogan of Syracuse, Kan., and Kathy Englehart of Farmington; sisters Ira Morehouse and Olive Trout, both of Los Lunas, N.M.; brothers Earl Ashcroft of Mancos and Rex Ashcroft of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Apache Building, 400 W. Apache St. in Farmington. Bishop Jared Lusk will officiate. Burial will be held after at Kline Community Cemetery. The cemetery is located west of Florida Mesa Elementary School, which is on Colorado Highway 140 in Kline.
