Barbara Flagg Obituary

Barbara Jean (Helm) Flagg, age 91, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away December 1, 2021 at Glenwood Village of Overland Park where she had resided since early 2017. She was married to Robert C. Flagg on May 28, 1948. Together they enjoyed 52 years raising their three children. Each of their children established successful careers as adults.

Barbara was a stay-at-home Mom, but enjoyed many hobbies and volunteering in the communities where they lived. She began a job as a school bus driver for five years once all of the children were in school. Then she also worked as a secretary for KC Fitness for several years. Her volunteer work included being the President of the PTA, leading a Bluebird and Camp Fire group, and helping with various church activities in the kitchens preparing for communion, creating activities for vacation Bible school, filing mail to be distributed to members, working in the United Methodist thrift shop, and creating crafts for the Durango United Methodist Church to sell at a rummage sale for the church.

Barbara had a strong faith in God and enjoyed studying the Word by completing several levels of Disciple study while being a member of Durango United Methodist Church. She attended Walk to Emmaus in the mid-1990s and then served on several Walks in various capacities. While living in Aurora, CO, she continued to help with Walks and encouraged others to become stronger in their faith.

Barbara made many friends over the years and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She was surely welcomed to her heavenly home. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel (Nye) Helm, and her husband, Robert C. Flagg.

She is survived by her sons: James R. Flagg (Terry), Charles E. Flagg (Lisa), daughter Carolyn S. Meurer (Larry), grandchildren: Gregory Flagg, Jennifer Flagg Kippie, James Meurer, Jeffrey Meurer, Jessica Meurer, and 13 great-grandchildren.
