Audrey Putnam Obituary

Audrey was born to Percy and Clorah Fair on March 27th, 1919 in Harper County, Oklahoma on their farm area near Rosston. She died very early Thursday morning, December 3, 2015 at Four Corners Health Care Center, at age 96.

Audrey was the only girl, along with three brothers, all of whom were expected to work hard and to walk the mile to school where Audrey finished eighth grade. Meager farming and the closing of schools and businesses during the Dust Bowl and the Depression made it necessary for the Fair family, along with many others, to flee. The family moved to Corona, NM and later to the Durango area.

She worked as a waitress at the Strater Hotel and the Silver Spur Restaurant until retirement. Audrey lived for most of her life after coming to this area in her home on Florida Mesa where she enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, as well as canning her produce. Family was very important to Audrey so she enjoyed being connected with her brothers' families and caring for her mother who lived with her. Audrey always had dogs and cats that were treated like her children.

In November, 1974 she married Norman E. 'Cal' Putnam Sr. and gladly became known as 'Grandma Audrey' to the Putnam family. Grandma Audrey babysat for the youngest Putnam grandchild, Ken, in her home and they remained close until her passing. She remained a beloved part of the Putnam family after Cal's death in 2002.

Her recent years have been spent visiting with friends and family and participating in her church activities as she was able, her bright and shining eyes and welcoming smile were a joy to all who came in contact with her.

Her parents and brothers, Herbert Fair, Sr., Raymond Fair, and Donnie Fair, all preceded her in death. Also, she was predeceased by stepsons Michael Putnam and Norman Putnam, Jr. She is survived by her niece Tammy (Fair) Wiley, and nephews Herbert Fair, Jr., Tim Fair, Jamie Fair, and Tracey Fair and their families; stepdaughters-in-law Gay and Anne Putnam; and Putnam grandchildren Paula, Patty, Lori, and Ken and their families.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8th, at Victorious Life Fellowship Church (Cowboy Church across from Miller School) with Pastor Stan Formby officiating, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.
