Arthur Reynolds Obituary

Arthur J. Reynolds, the brother of Durango resident Katherine Reynolds, died from complications of pneumonia Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, in York, Maine. He had turned 79 a week earlier.

Known as "Jack," he was born to Theodora (DeYoung) and Arthur Reynolds Sr. on Dec. 28, 1932, in Elgin, Ill. He attended the University of Illinois and Andover Newton Theological Seminary and was a graduate of Elmhurst and Northeastern colleges.

He married Kate Richmond in Arlington, Mass.

Mr. Reynolds worked in production control for Raytheon and Northrop corporations.

"He had an incredible passion for and knowledge of classical music," his sister said.

Mr. Reynolds sang in the University of Illinois Choir and played the tuba in the U.S. Army Band in Fort Lee, Va. For 32 years, he sang in the Boston and Lexington, Mass., Masterworks Chorales. Mr. Reynolds was a member of the American Guild of Organists.

He served on several boards in his community and was a member of South Church in Portsmouth, N.H.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kate Reynolds, of South Berwick, Maine; daughters, the Rev. Carol Reynolds of Cadillac, Mich., and Gwendlyn DeYoung-Martin of Dover, N.H.; twin sisters, Katherine Reynolds of Durango and Margaret Schmidt of Bartlett, Ill.; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 14, 2012, at South Church in Portsmouth. The Revs. Chris Holton Jablonski and Lauren Smith will officiate.
